"Very ripe with hints of dates and figs combined with blackberry fruit. A well-balanced and harmonious style that is both complex and intense. Long, with fruity acidity throughout the tasting. A selection of the estate's oldest vines (65-115 years old), organically grown on sandstone and marl soils, hand-harvested, fermented as whole bunches with indigenous yeasts and bottled after aging in old casks and demi-muids." (Decanter 2021). A complex red combining finesse and character!

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
Among Gigondas' must-haves, Moulin de la Gardette and its ten hectares are an endearing property, run with precision by Jean-Baptiste Meunier. Between the terroirs of Saint-Jean and the Gardette hillside, the old Grenache vines capture the finesse of the limestone marl. There is no showmanship in the cellar, just perfect mastery of the wood by the master of the house. For several vintages now, the estate's wines have displayed remarkable naturalness, with a silky texture and integrated tannins.

This Gigondas estate has long been a sure bet within the appellation. It has been run by Jean-Baptiste Meunier since 1990 and comprises 10 hectares divided into 25 plots, located between 100 and 330 meters above sea level, where the vines reach an average age of 50 years.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100
About wine:
Bright purple color. The highly fragrant bouquet evokes ripe fruits such as cherry and blackberry, violet and vanilla, with notes of wood smoke and baking spices in the background. A broad and heavy style, offering flavors of candied black fruits, licorice, and mocha, as well as a spicy touch of crushed pepper. Full-bodied and extroverted in style, it finishes with a long, smoky note, well-developed tannins and repeated hints of black fruit. I suspect that some will prefer the classic bottling of this vintage for its liveliness. Those who like muscular Gigondas will probably prefer this one; my rating reflects the wine's potential after a little patience.

About wine:
The old vine cuvée (...) has a superb nose of black cherry liqueur, raspberry, sappy garrigue, and flowers. The palate is medium-bodied to full-bodied, layered and consistent in 2020, with ultra-fine tannins and a beautiful finish. This is a captivating Gigondas to be enjoyed over the next 10 to 15 years.
