“A Lirac with a rich, sunny character”

“A juicy nose of dark fruit and spices. The profile is rich and sunny without being overcooked or mushy. Wild berries and spices are prominent. The palate reveals high-quality texture and considerable body; this opulent wine borders on being unbalanced. It’s good, but massive.” (Le Guide RVF 2025)

Wine rated (2025 guide) 90/100

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)

About the wine:

A juicy nose of black fruit and spices. The profile is rich and sunny without being overcooked or mushy. Wild berries and spices are prominent. On the palate, the wine displays high-quality texture and considerable body; this opulent wine borders on being unbalanced. It’s good, but massive.

About the estate:

Despite its name, this estate is highly fragmented and encompasses nearly every type of soil found within the appellation. Produced using traditional methods, the red Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are often reserved in their youth. They are crafted to reveal their full potential over time. For several vintages now, Thierry Sabon has brought finesse and refinement to the entire range, from the basic Côtes-du-Rhône to the top-tier Châteauneuf-du-Pape. We have been following this estate’s progress for many years. At ten years old, the wines express themselves with grace. At twenty years, they reach a new milestone and reveal their true potential: one then fully appreciates their aromas of truffle, undergrowth, and fruit that seems infused by time. The white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is spirited and distinguished. In good vintages, the estate offers the Cuvée du Papet, a dense and deep wine, built for aging, which often reaches an exceptional level. All the wines show great aging potential.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on May 11, 2025

In addition to its vinous character and full-bodied texture, this Lirac is full-bodied, lively, and boasts a rich tannic structure dominated by perfectly ripe stone fruits and abundant spices, with notes of Sichuan pepper that add a touch of freshness and temper the power typical of this vintage. A hint of mint on the finish. Wild boar stew and charcoal-grilled duck will pair perfectly with this cuvée of strong character, which will delight lovers of robust and highly expressive southern wines. Rating = 3.9.
