success story

"One of the finest Syrah wines in the appellation!"

"Full-bodied, ripe, and rich for a 2023, with surprisingly vibrant acidity. The nose and palate are marked by forest berries, but the style is less fragrant than that of Parady. The tannins are taut and fine, and this wine is truly bursting with energy. 'A vintage in which it is possible to make very good wines,' says Fabrice Gripa. (Decanter 2024)

About wine:

Full-bodied, ripe, and rich for a 2023, with surprisingly vibrant acidity. The nose and palate are marked by wild berries, but the style is less fragrant than that of the Parady. The tannins are taut and refined; this wine truly brims with energy. “A vintage in which it’s possible to make very good wines,” says Fabrice Gripa.

About the estate:

The Gripa family arrived in Saint-Péray in the 17th century, then settled in Mauves around 1850. A sure bet in the northern Rhône Valley, both for its Saint-Péray and Saint-Joseph wines (as evidenced by the numerous Favorites in both appellations), the estate has been run since 2001 by Fabrice Gripa, son of Bernard, who now manages 18 hectares of vineyards.

Wine rating (2026 guide) 95/100 Favorite

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

Fabrice Gripa continues his father's work in the Mauves estate, which produces as many white wines as reds. He is a master of his craft, producing a range of wines with strong personalities. The whites are represented by four cuvées: two Saint-Péray and two Saint-Joseph. The reds are fruit-forward, with integrity and admirable aging. A consistent estate producing wines of very high quality.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 94/100

About wine:

Made from the estate’s oldest vines and aged for a year in 228-liter French oak barrels, the 2023 Saint Joseph Le Berceau is a brilliant wine that ranks among the region’s finest. Ultra-classic aromas of red and black fruits, along with ground pepper, tapenade, and floral and savory notes, emerge from the glass, with a full-bodied, meaty character that develops over time. It is medium-bodied with a concentrated mid-palate, ripe but still-developing tannins, and a lovely finish. This is a magnificent Saint-Joseph that enthusiasts should buy by the case and enjoy over the next 15 years or so.
