great deal

" It's hard to believe that an entry-level wine from a Roussillon estate could be this good. The 2017 Cuvée Constance shows a hint of Carignan's herbaceous character, but here it adds just a touch of freshness and gives way to raspberry aromas while bringing notes of roses and tea leaves. It is medium-bodied to full-bodied with silky yet firm tannins that suggest a few years to mellow, and a long finish.” (Wine Advocate 2019)

About the wine:

A fresh, lively red from Roussillon with notes of crushed berries and light chocolate, as well as orange and lemon zest. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a clean finish. Grenache and Carignan. Ready to drink or for aging.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on July 18, 2022

A beautiful terroir-driven wine that beautifully blends Grenache and Carignan, with a robust character and a deep, intense style featuring ripe black fruits, intertwined with notes of smoke, licorice, and spices. The wine is built on bold tannins, yet remains elegant and rounded. At its ideal drinking window, it leaves a surprisingly refined mouthfeel with great depth, despite its 15% alcohol content, which in no way contributes to heaviness. Consistent in quality, "Constance" has also become a cuvée that is virtually a benchmark for Roussillon wines, and at a very affordable price to boot. Rating: 3.9. Pair with farm-raised rabbit in a saupiquet sauce.
