Calvet-Thunevin

Domaine Calvet-Thunevin was founded in 2001 following a meeting between Jean-Luc Thunevin, owner of Château Valandraud in Saint-Émilion, and Jean-Roger Calvet, a young winemaker from the Maury region in Roussillon. Modest in size at the outset, Domaine Calvet-Thunevin now cultivates 60 hectares of vineyards. Domaine Calvet-Thunevin is located within the Maury appellation, with vineyards growing on soil composed mainly of schistose marl, along with some clay-limestone and granite plots.

The grape varieties at Domaine Calvet-Thunevin consist mainly of Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan, along with Mourvèdre and a few other varieties. Vineyard management is designed to be environmentally friendly, avoiding chemical weed control and using treatments that have the least possible impact on the environment. Harvesting at Domaine Calvet-Thunevin is done by hand, with sorting taking place both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Depending on the cuvée, the wines are aged either in concrete tanks or in barrels. In 2008, Domaine Calvet-Thunevin also acquired a new winery, incorporating the most modern eco-friendly solutions and providing a high-performance facility to ensure the quality of its wines under the Côtes du Roussillon Villages, Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes, and Maury appellations.
