"Infinite finale...

"The syrah-grenache-mourvèdre trio at work in this well-born cuvée, an attractive intense red with ruby highlights. Equally engaging is the nose, open to fresh red fruits and fine oak. The palate is full, round and well-balanced, carried by smooth tannins and a lovely freshness with menthol and eucalyptus tones that carry through to the finish. Perfect with grilled red meat or in sauce". (Le Guide Hachette 2024)

Domaine noté (guide 2020) Sélectionné (An estate or house that has won us over with one or more wines from its production, without us being able to give a general opinion on the style of the entire range)

About the domain :

This estate, original in its marketing approach as much as in its wine style, produces cuvées with amusing labels that often linger in the memory. The Perez family travels, thinks and begins to find the way to better recognition of their products. The estate is a good source for powerful, colorful reds, which are sure to fuel debate with their often original and always highly mature profiles.

About the domain :

South of Perpignan, Charles Perez has been running his own domaine since 2008 in the hamlet of Nyls, in the Aspres region: 25 hectares of organic vineyards planted on three hills within a 110-hectare estate. In reds, his blends give pride of place to Syrah. Each year, a different artist "sketches" this vineyard figure to illustrate his labels. The same goes for the members of his family. A sort of Catalan Mouton Rothschild!

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Made from Syrah grapes, Côtes du Roussillon Villages Barrique 2020 presents aromas of toasted coconut, vanilla, cherry and chocolate on the nose. The palate, on the other hand, is more savory, full-bodied and silky, framed by fine-grained tannins that balance the ripe fruit. I find this bottle more elegant than the Excellence 2020, but not necessarily better.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

Huge black fruits with notes of leather, tar and smoke in the imposing nose. A huge mouthful that will put many off. However, this wine has been well constructed and is not monolithic; on the contrary, the finish has a certain elegance. A blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Made from organically grown grapes. For drinking or cellaring.

About the wine:

A similar blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, but aged in barrels, the Côtes Du Roussillon Villages Barrique 2020 is a more imposing wine, offering pretty red and black fruits as well as many aromas and flavors of pepper, meat and garrigue. Concentrated and medium-bodied, it has wonderful freshness and a lovely finish. This impeccable Roussillon should be drunk over the next 3-5 years.

Against the current trend for wines to be drunk young and fruity, here's a little Gem that can't leave you indifferent, so imposing is its Catalan character. With such a large body (15%), Barrique is a "heavyweight", offering vigor, opulence and depth from the outset, but without exuberance or heaviness. As the tasting progresses, the wine becomes more powerful, releasing a pulpy juice with intense, complex flavors of macerated black berries and fresh red fruit, dripping with peppery spices and subtle animal and licorice notes. The thick, almost oily texture is incredible too, with its creamy, enveloping feel, fine grain and false sweetness, as it surprises with a refreshing line of powerful tannins, patinated with melted woodiness thanks to ambitious, yet precise, aging. Notes of mocha and vanilla complete the suave, voluptuous finish of extreme length. In conclusion, a wine of terroir identity, well-crafted, complete from start to finish and original right down to its humorous packaging, with a hyper-competitive price tag for this level of quality. Although built for ageing in the light of this excellent 2020 vintage, Barrique was a marvellous accompaniment to mature Aubrac beef ribs, braised with vine stock and accompanied by a pan-fried dish of fresh mousserons. Score = 4.5.
