About wine:

The Syrah-Grenache-Mourvèdre trio is at work in this well-bred cuvée, with an attractive intense red color and ruby highlights. Equally appealing is the nose, which opens with fresh red fruit and subtle oak. The palate is full-bodied, round and balanced, carried by mellow tannins and a beautiful freshness with hints of menthol and eucalyptus that prolongs the finish. Perfect with grilled red meat or meat in sauce.

About the estate:

South of Perpignan, Charles Perez has been running his estate since 2008 in the hamlet of Nyls, in the Aspres region: 25 hectares of organic vines planted on three hills within a 110-hectare estate. His red blends feature Syrah. This leading figure in the wine industry is "sketched" by a different artist each year to illustrate his labels. The same goes for his family members. Made from Syrah grapes, the 2020 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Barrique has aromas of toasted coconut, vanilla, cherry, and chocolate on the nose. On the palate, however, it is more flavorful, full-bodied, and silky, framed by fine-grained tannins that balance the ripe fruit. I find this bottle more elegant than the Excellence 2020, but not necessarily better.

Huge black fruits with notes of leather, tar, and smoke in the imposing nose. An enormous mouthfeel that will put off many. However, this wine is well constructed and is not monolithic; on the contrary, the finish is quite elegant. A blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink now or keep.

A similar blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, but aged in barrels, the 2020 Côtes Du Roussillon Villages Barrique is a more imposing wine that offers lovely red and black fruit flavors as well as numerous aromas and flavors of pepper, meat, and garrigue. Concentrated and medium-bodied, it has wonderful freshness and a beautiful finish. This impeccable Roussillon should be drunk within the next 3 to 5 years.
