“Infinite Finale...”

"The Syrah-Grenache-Mourvèdre blend shines in this well-crafted wine, which boasts an attractive, intense red color with ruby highlights. The nose is equally inviting, opening with fresh red fruit and subtle oak notes. The palate is full-bodied, round, and balanced, supported by velvety tannins and a lovely freshness with notes of menthol and eucalyptus that extend the finish. Perfect with grilled red meat or meat in sauce.” (Le Guide Hachette 2024)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, though we are unable to offer a general assessment of the style of its entire range)

About the estate:

This winery, which is as innovative in its marketing approach as it is in its wine styles, produces wines with playful labels that often leave a lasting impression. The Perez family travels, reflects, and is beginning to find a path toward greater recognition for its products. The estate is a great source of powerful, vibrant reds, which are sure to spark conversation with their often unique profiles and consistently deep ripeness.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated wine (2024 guide) 2*Stars (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

The Syrah-Grenache-Mourvèdre blend shines in this well-crafted wine, which boasts an attractive, intense red color with ruby highlights. Equally inviting is the nose, which opens with fresh red fruit and subtle oak notes. The palate is full-bodied, round, and balanced, supported by smooth tannins and a lovely freshness with notes of menthol and eucalyptus that extend the finish. Perfect with grilled red meat or meat in sauce.

About the estate:

South of Perpignan, Charles Perez has been running his estate since 2008 in the hamlet of Nyls, in the Aspres region: 25 hectares of organic vineyards spread across three hills within a 110-hectare estate. For his reds, his blends highlight Syrah. This leading figure in the wine region is “sketched” by a different artist each year to illustrate his labels. The same goes for his family members. The Catalan Mouton Rothschild, so to speak!

Rated wine (2023 guide) 90/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Made from Syrah grapes, the 2020 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Barrique offers aromas of toasted coconut, vanilla, cherry, and chocolate on the nose. On the palate, however, it is more flavorful, full-bodied, and silky, supported by fine-grained tannins that balance the ripe fruit. I find this bottle more elegant than the 2020 Excellence, but not necessarily better.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

Huge black fruit with notes of leather, tar, and smoke on the imposing nose. A powerful mouthfeel that will put some people off. However, this wine is well-structured and not one-dimensional; on the contrary, the finish displays a certain elegance. A blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink now or cellars.

About the wine:

A similar blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, but aged in barrels, the 2020 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Barrique is a more robust wine that offers lovely red and black fruit, along with rich aromas and flavors of pepper, meat, and garrigue. Concentrated and medium-bodied, it displays wonderful freshness and a lovely finish. This impeccable Roussillon is best enjoyed within the next 3 to 5 years.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on May 2, 2024

Bucking the current trend of wines meant to be enjoyed for their fruitiness while still young, here is a little Gem is sure to make an impression with its quintessentially Catalan character. With such a robust body (15%), Barrique “packs a punch,” delivering vigor, opulence, and depth right from the first sip—yet without any exuberance or heaviness. The wine builds in intensity as you taste it, releasing a pulpy juice with intense and complex flavors of macerated small black berries and fresh red fruits, dripping with peppery spices and subtle animal and licorice notes. The thick, almost oily texture is also incredible, with its creamy, enveloping mouthfeel, fine grain, and deceptive sweetness—as it surprises with a refreshing line of powerful tannins, softened by the wood thanks to an ambitious yet precise aging process. Notes of mocha and vanilla round out the smooth, voluptuous finish of extraordinary length. In conclusion, a wine with a distinct terroir identity, well-crafted, complete from start to finish, and original right down to its humor-tinged packaging—all at a highly competitive price for this level of quality. Although built for aging given this excellent 2020 vintage, Barrique wonderfully complemented beautifully aged Aubrac ribeye steaks, braised with vine shoots and accompanied by a pan-seared dish of fresh mousserons. Rating = 4.5.
