Le Pilou is a cuvée made exclusively from the estate’s flagship grape variety: Carignan. Some of the grapes come from century-old vines, yielding the finest fruit: a true labor of love! A noble expression of ripe black berries, with hints of animal notes, marked by velvety texture, freshness, and great finesse... A true success!

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

The brother of the famous Jo Pithon, a leading figure in the Layon hillsides during the 1990s, Olivier Pithon fell in love with the terroirs of Calce, where his journey began in 2001. A devoted biodynamic winemaker, he imbues his wines with a distinct identity—vines that are rich and full-bodied yet easy to enjoy.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

This is the story of a winemaker from Anjou, who spent time in Bordeaux, and fell in love with the village of Calce in 2000. In 2001, Olivier Pithon found about 7 hectares in the area and immediately purchased his first biodynamic preparation to implement biodynamic practices. The estate was certified in 2010. Today, it spans 22 hectares across three areas with distinct geologies (schist, marl, and clay-limestone). The winery, built just outside the village, also allows the winemaker to produce his small-scale wine business using grapes from quality growers who share his philosophy. All the wines are full of charm, with very delicate textures on the palate and energy. Always joyful, expressive, and juicy, these vintages develop extra body and tension compared to wines meant for aging. A benchmark estate.
