Le Roc des Anges - Côtes Catalanes Segna de Cor 2023
90/100
Bettane & Desseauve
"He'll get everyone to agree!"
Made from grapes grown on the estate's vines (no more than 40 years old), this wine expresses all their youthfulness. A fresh, mineral, charming wine with a complex nose combining spices and vanilla, and a straightforward, charming palate. Its frankness makes it perfect for a canette and a wonderful accompaniment to stewed or oven-baked meat!

Rated estate (2024 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Bright. That is surely the adjective that best describes Roc des Anges, both in terms of the style of the wines and the modern, attractive winery owned by Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet. They built their estate from scratch, and today it covers 45 hectares of vineyards. The wines are very drinkable, with relatively low alcohol levels for the region, where careful viticulture and intelligent harvesting dates prevent any heaviness in the wines. Biodynamics explains part of this originality for the Roussillon, as does the very special terroir of Montner, with its very fine schist that behaves like sand. This estate regularly provides us with some of the most beautiful dry wines in the entire department.

Note and opinion by Mr. FRANCOIS I. Published on 05/05/2025
Dark red color, ruby with a slight purple hue. Smoky nose with hints of cocoa and licorice, a touch of black fruit (between blackberry and blackcurrant). Fresh on the palate with a fairly supple texture (the tannins are well integrated), fruity with a fairly pronounced bitterness on the finish. Served slightly chilled to "tone down" its southern character, I found it more enjoyable with food than on its own, as I found the bitterness too pronounced on the finish. Good+
