Le Roc des Anges - Côtes Catalanes Segna de Cor 2023
90/100
Bettane & Desseauve
"It'll bring everyone together!"
Made from grapes grown on the estate’s vineyards (which are no more than 40 years old), this wine fully expresses their youthful character. It is a fresh, mineral, and charming wine with a complex nose combining spices and vanilla, and a clean, appealing palate. Its straightforward character makes it a perfect match for a can of beer and pairs wonderfully with braised or roasted meats!

Rated estate (2024 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
Bright. That’s surely the adjective that best describes Roc des Anges, both in terms of the style of the wines and the modern, aesthetically pleasing winery built by Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet. They built their estate from the ground up, and today it spans 45 hectares of vineyards. These are highly drinkable wines, relatively low in alcohol for the region, where meticulous viticulture and a well-timed harvest prevent any heaviness in the wines. Biodynamics accounts for part of this uniqueness in Roussillon, as does the very distinctive terroir of Montner, with its very fine schist that behaves like sand. This estate consistently delivers some of the most exquisite dry wines in the entire department.

Review and opinion by Mr. FRANCOIS I. Published on May 5, 2025
Dark red color, ruby with a slight purplish hue. Smoky on the nose with notes of cocoa and licorice, and a hint of black fruit (somewhere between blackberry and blackcurrant). The palate is fresh with a fairly supple texture (the tannins are well-integrated), focused on fruit, and a fairly pronounced bitterness on the finish. Served slightly chilled to “tone down” its southern character, it seemed to me to pair better with food than on its own, as the bitterness was too pronounced on the finish for my taste. Much better+
