Robert Parker

"The 2010 Maury Hecht & Bannier is surprisingly fruity for a wine from this appellation, highlighted by notes of strawberry and raspberry, with hints of roasted, resinous, and crushed stone. With 90g of residual sugar, it is very well-balanced by the appellation’s standards—that is, neither too sweet nor cloying. It should be enjoyed through 2017, or longer.” (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated (2016 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

Grégory Hecht and François Bannier have breathed new life into the region, specializing from the very beginning—in 2002—in a high-quality, ambitious, and original wine merchant operation. Carefully selecting their grapes from across the Mediterranean basin, from Roussillon to Provence, they meticulously craft and age ambitious wines that often hit the mark. Every year they visit several hundred estates to select only the finest grapes and the best juices, most often from hillside vineyards.

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2015) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

About the wine:

Based in Aix-en-Provence for the past ten years, this wine merchant aims to introduce people to the richness and quality of Mediterranean wines: its operations encompass vineyard selection, blending, and aging. For this Maury, the focus was on preserving the fruit and highlighting its finesse. Supple, delicate, and fresh, the wine reveals aromas of bigarreau cherries against a silky, well-integrated tannic structure with subtle spicy notes. A Maury best enjoyed chilled as an aperitif or paired with blue cheese on toast.

Rated estate (2016 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Grégory Hecht and François Bannier continue to run their wine merchant and producer business, which specializes in wines from the Mediterranean region (Languedoc, Roussillon, and Provence), breathing new life into an area that has been lacking initiatives of this kind. The selection is rigorous, featuring a precise and aromatic style that intelligently avoids the dominance of new oak. While we commend the work accomplished and the consistency of the most ambitious vintages—with Faugères and Saint-Chinian among the best in their respective appellations—the range also shows some weaknesses.
