Bettane & Desseauve
Rated wine 14/20 (Good wine)
Domaine rated (2021 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
60% Jacquère blended with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir: this nimble, full-bodied crémant is easy to drink, with a lovely creamy bubble. The best in its category.
About the domain :
Jean-François Quénard took over from his father in 1987, and the original five hectares have been expanded through tenant farming to 17.5 hectares today, ten of which have been worked organically for the past six years (which should soon enable certification for the reds). The whites are slender, mineral, pure and pleasingly consistent. They are ideally ripe, without excess, and have great finesse. The reds are full-bodied and generous, and need to be decanted or waited for. The rest of the range is of the same ilk, with good mouthfeel and fullness. Quality is exemplary and continues to improve. The newly arrived crémant outshines the category. A sure bet!

Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
As delicious and original as ever, with Jacquère (60% of the blend) giving it its airy character, Crémant is regularly among our favorites.
About the domain :
There are many Quenards and Quénards in the village of Chignin, but Jean-François stands out. We salute the quality of the work accomplished and the coherence of the vast range, which is refined each year by small touches and constitutes a landmark in a changing Savoyard wine landscape. The reds have made considerable progress and are now at a very high level. Richly endowed, vinified with only indigenous yeasts, the whites maintain just the right balance on the palate. Looking to the future, Jean-François Quénard has restructured his vineyard, which is currently undergoing organic farming certification. The estate has been passed on to his daughter Anne-Sophie, who studied at Beaune and Changins. Her first name now appears on the winery and labels.

About the wine:
[...] Dry, elegant Crémant. It whets the appetite, but those used to sparkling wines with a rounded finish may find it slightly austere. Not so for me. Tight, bright and pure. Surprisingly long, too.
