Domaine Anne-Sophie et Jean-François Quénard
The JF Quénard Estate is a family estate that has been passed down from father to son since 1644. It is located in the upper part of the village, at the foot of the famous Chignin towers, whose origins remain a mystery. Jean-François, an oenologist, took over the estate with his father in 1987, after earning his degree (from the University of Dijon) and completing various enriching internships in Bordeaux and California. Anne-Sophie, one of Jean-François’s daughters, now assists him at the estate.
The JF Quénard Estate Today, the estate comprises 17 hectares of vineyards stretching at the foot of the towers of the ancient fortress. The Chignin vineyard, located 10 km south of Chambéry, is characterized by its well-exposed clay-limestone slopes and its magnificent site featuring medieval towers. Jean-François Quénard draws inspiration from traditional methods passed down through successive generations. He ensures respect for the terroir, cultivation practices, and winemaking techniques, enhanced by new methods. Each plot is vinified separately; it is like bringing a baby into the world—from grape to wine.

Our vineyard is planted with native Savoie grape varieties, namely Mondeuse, Persan, Roussette (Altesse), Bergeron (Roussanne), and Jacquère. Gamay and Pinot Noir are also part of our vineyard, though in smaller quantities. Most of our vineyards are on hillsides, some of which have slopes of up to 45%. As a result, everything must be done by hand. To ensure the grapes are handled with care, the harvest is done manually. The JF Quénard Estate is now certified organic. The organic label will be displayed on red wines starting with the 2021 vintage. Starting in 2020, white wines will follow suit.
