About the estate:

Bergerac, in the far southeast of the appellation: from his organically farmed plots on the limestone plateau and the deep-clay slopes, Julien Auroux looks to the future with confidence. His wines have turned their backs on Bergerac’s past, which sought to imitate Bordeaux reds while neglecting the terroir. He, on the contrary, is committed to wines characterized by minerality, a clear and precise aromatic expression, made with native yeasts, and with almost no added sulfur. He is reviving grape varieties of the past for a return to the future. The lineup draws on the acidity of the soils to create an approachable profile and takes a step up this year.

With just the right amount of freshness from a basket of juicy, crisp fruit, the palate is powerful, full-bodied, and energetic, yet also displays tenderness and smoothness thanks to enveloping, velvety tannins with remarkable aromatic persistence. The price remains as reasonable as ever. A pure delight when paired with an autumn salad featuring mixed greens, thin slices of Bayonne ham, cubes of aged Cantal cheese, thin slices of Bordeaux porcini mushrooms, and walnut kernels. Rating = 4.1.
