"This wine recreates the medieval technique used to heat fermenting must in order to make it more stable. In this case, it also produces a wine with an almost black color, dark in appearance and aroma. There is elegance here, with fine tannins that are well integrated with the juicy black fruit and the ripe style. This is a wine made for aging, even though it is juicy enough to be enjoyed right now.” (Wine Enthusiast 2015) A real treat!

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 16.5/20 (Benchmark wine)
Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the wine:
A real success in 2012, with a beautifully smooth texture and delicious tannins.
About the estate:
Jean-Luc Baldès carries on the family legacy of this historic estate in Cahors. A large portion of the 65 hectares lies on the third terraces of Vire, along the banks of the Lot. The rest is situated on the Causse plateau and its whiter soils. While the intelligent plot selection reflects the estate’s heritage, the Prince-Probus blend offers a true representation of modern Cahors—vibrant and juicy. A must-visit destination.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2022 guide) Cité
About the wine:
In the 2012 New Black Wine, the careful aging process brings out a dense wine bursting with fruit flavors.
About the estate:
Jean-Luc Baldès was a champion of Cahors Malbec, striving to bring out the full potential of his vineyard, located on the second, third, and fourth terraces of the Lot River. As a guardian of the vineyard’s history, the “black wine” and the Probus cuvée once brought fame to Cahors. Today, the estate is focusing on wine tourism and attempting to produce more modern wines, without really succeeding. We are therefore removing the star this year.
