"Referencing the quails that live in the vineyard, this intensely fruity wine is ripe and full-bodied. Aromas of truffle, spice, plum, and berries abound. This is a true wine for aging; keep it for at least seven years, although with its superb fruitiness, it can also be enjoyed earlier." (Wine Enthusiast 2011)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
Jean-Luc Baldès continues the family saga of this historic Cahors estate. A large part of the 65 hectares is located on the third terraces of Vire, on the banks of the Lot River. The rest is located on the Causse plateau and its whiter soils. While the intelligent parcel selection reflects the estate's heritage, the Prince-Probus blend gives a true impression of modern Cahors wine: colorful and juicy. An essential address.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rated (2012 guide) 15,5/20 (Very good)
About wine:
This wine offers a very appealing fruity approach with notes of prune, violet, and spices. Its smoothness on the palate gives it a very appealing character, which will be best appreciated later on.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Wine rated (2011 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2022 guide) Cité
About wine:
More expressive, originating from the Moureau terroir, Petites Cailles stands out for its velvety texture and cocoa finish.
About the estate:
Jean-Luc Baldès was a standard-bearer for Cahors Malbec, striving to express the potential of his vineyard located on the second, third, and fourth terraces of the Lot. Guardians of the vineyard's history, the "black wine" and the Probus cuvée made Cahors famous for a time. Today, the estate is focusing on wine tourism and attempting to produce more modern cuvées, without really succeeding. We are therefore removing the star this year.
