Le Petit Clos is a refined Cahors with a very expressive nose that gradually develops notes of red berries with a hint of licorice. On the palate, it is round and beautifully balanced. A harmonious wine that is a true pleasure to drink.

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2022 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
Jean-Luc Baldès continues the family legacy of this historic estate in Cahors. A large portion of the 65 hectares is located on the third terraces of Vire, along the banks of the Lot River. The remainder lies on the Causse plateau, with its whiter soils. While the thoughtful plot-by-plot selection reflects the estate’s heritage, the “Prince-Probus” blend offers an accurate portrayal of modern Cahors—vibrant and juicy. A must-visit destination.

About the estate:
Jean-Luc Baldès was a champion of Cahors Malbec, striving to bring out the full potential of his vineyard located on the second, third, and fourth terraces of the Lot River. As the guardian of the vineyard’s history, the “black wine” and the Probus cuvée were once the hallmarks of Cahors’ reputation. Today, the estate is focusing on wine tourism and attempting to produce more modern wines, without really succeeding. We are therefore removing the star this year.

A full-bodied, robust wine with a lovely finish, well-balanced High in alcohol, yet retains a certain freshness (note: 14º on the label and 12.5º on the technical sheet)

A bit of a letdown—this Cahors is decent but too conventional. An old-school wine.
