Château Tour des Gendres - Côtes-de-Bergerac La Gloire de mon Père 2021
91/100
Vert de Vin
“Cuvée Hommage”
"The wine displays a deep ruby color. The nose is dense and noble, revealing hints of ripe black plums and figs, a touch of blackcurrant, complemented by notes of sweet spices and cocoa. On the palate, it is smooth and velvety, with balanced and refreshing acidity, well-integrated, fine-grained tannins, and undeniable finesse and elegance. The wine opens with hints of tart red cherries, a touch of cranberry, a hint of blackcurrant leaf and fresh tobacco, a lovely tang, and spice. The finish is long and succulent.” (Vert de Vin 2022)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 3 stars (A high-quality product that serves as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
This estate has long been the family stronghold of the de Conti family. Luc de Conti purchased the estate in 1981. His cousin Francis and his son Guillaume joined him, while his daughter Margaux chose another estate (Barouillet) and his son Gilles pursued a career in brewing. Fifty hectares are farmed organically, and a small portion (12 hectares) is farmed biodynamically.

About the estate:
Savagnin, a grape variety native to the Jura region, is making its debut in the Bergerac region! A craft brewery and a distillery further diversify the estate’s offerings. With Gilles and Margaux de Conti, the new generation—full of ideas—took over this family estate in 2022. While creating original vintages, they continue to produce the appellation wines that have made Château Tour des Gendres famous, founded in 1981 by their father Luc, the son of farmer-winemakers and grandson of Italian immigrants who settled in the region in 1925. The estate, now 30 hectares in size, committed to organic farming in 1996, prior to receiving certification in 2009.

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
The 52-hectare estate has recently been divided between the two branches of the family. Luc de Conti, who has been delighting us with his Bergerac wines for twenty-five years, has parted ways with his cousin and, together with his children, Margaux and Gilles, is building a new future for the estate. The vineyard, entirely organic, produces full-bodied whites and reds that adhere to the classic standards of the Bergerac region. Beer, whiskey, and truffles will also now be part of the lineup for the Conti label.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 02/25/2025
I’m somewhat cautious about this cuvée, which VDV has praised. With low alcohol content and extensive aging, this Bergerac offers a distinct balance between freshness and richness, featuring tart red fruits enhanced by spices and supported by a firm, dense tannic structure. With an exceptionally supple texture, the palate glides with finesse and lightness toward a sharp finish tinged with a few smoky notes. Too young to drink and overpriced. This easy-drinking wine will be perfect, when the time comes, for pairing with wood-fired grilled duck skewers in Béarnaise sauce. Score: 3.7.
