"A beautiful deep garnet color adorns this wine with an intense nose of ripe blackcurrant and peppermint. A rounded attack opens onto a full, rich, and dense palate with ripe tannins, which remains elegant and displays great length." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2019)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2026 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
The Laplace brothers courageously manage this large 65-hectare estate and a small adjoining wine business. They have successfully adapted the style of local wines to contemporary requirements, seeking greater balance and precision in their winemaking. They never lack imagination when it comes to creating wines of character at very reasonable prices.

About wine:
This wine has a beautiful deep garnet color and an intense nose of ripe blackcurrant and peppermint. The attack is rounded, opening onto a full, rich, and dense palate with ripe tannins that remain elegant and show great length.
About the estate:
Château d'Aydie is a family affair (and a safe bet): four Laplace children are now following in the footsteps of their grandfather Frédéric, who was one of the first to sell Madiran in bottles, with the help of André Daguin, the famous Gascon chef. The 62-hectare estate has been expanded to include a wine trading business.
Wine Spectator
Wine rated (2020 guide) 92/100 (Exceptional wine)
Rated Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Wine Spectator)
About wine:
A concentrated wine, rich in both tannins and black plum flavors. Because these elements are balanced, the wine has a bright future. It will remain dense and structured but will offer plenty of ripe fruit. Drink this wine from 2021 onwards.

A well-made Madiran, I recommend it, fair value for money, considering the exorbitant price of a decent product over the last few years.
