The Kanonkop estate is now known as one of South Africa's greatest winegrowing names, and its winemaker Abrie Beeslaar as the man who best sublimates the Pinotage grape variety (a cross between Cinsault and Pinot Noir). His 2022 vintage is a perfect example: fleshy and concentrated, it seduces with its juicy fruit, olive and coffee bean flavors, ripe tannins and persistent freshness.

Intense crimson colour with slightly amethyst highlights on the disk
Nose
Of fine intensity and delicate freshness, it initially offers scents of plum, blackberry and redcurrant, followed by more tertiary notes of vanilla bean, roasted nuts and subtle smokiness.
Mouth
Wonderfully balanced, acidity blends perfectly with integrated, creamy, velvety tannins, revealing flavors of plums, cherries, blackberries and black figs, complexed by aromas of dark chocolate and spicy oak, very long finish, magnificent cellaring potential.

About the wine:
The full palette of rich dark fruits, dark chocolate - high cocoa content - leather, charcoal and vanilla. Large quantities of dark fruit, a little warming alcohol with a slightly mentholated/herbaceous note, and the smoky breath of a good steak and embers. Very structured, with fine, enveloping tannins. Still very young, this is undoubtedly a wine with the legs to go a long way in the cellar.
