The Kanonkop estate is now known as one of South Africa's leading wine producers, and its winemaker Abrie Beeslaar as the man who best brings out the best in the Pinotage grape variety (a cross between Cinsault and Pinot Noir). His 2022 vintage is a perfect example: full-bodied and concentrated, it seduces with its juicy fruit, olive and coffee bean flavors, ripe tannins and lingering freshness.

Intense purple color with slight amethyst highlights on the rim.
Nose
Beautiful intensity, delicate freshness, offering aromas of plum, blackberry, and redcurrant at first, then revealing more tertiary notes of vanilla pod, toasted nuts, and subtle smokiness.
Mouth
Wonderfully balanced, the acidity blends perfectly with the integrated, creamy, velvety tannins, revealing flavors of plums, cherries, blackberries, and black figs, complemented by complex aromas of dark chocolate and spicy oak. Very long finish, magnificent aging potential.

About wine:
A full range of rich black fruits, dark chocolate—with a high cocoa content—leather, charcoal, and vanilla. Lots of dark fruit, a little warming alcohol with a slightly minty/herbaceous note, and the smoky aroma of a good steak and embers. Very structured, with fine, enveloping tannins. Still very young, this is undoubtedly a wine with the legs to go a long way in the cellar.
