Stellenbosch

Among South Africa's twelve wine-producing regions, the Stellenbosch vineyard stands out in particular. Located just east of Cape Town, Stellenbosch is South Africa's leading wine-producing region.

The Stellenbosch terroir offers excellent growing conditions, thanks to a Mediterranean-type climate well suited to the noble grape varieties planted in granite soils on the mountain slopes. Vinification begins with cold maceration for two or three days before fermentation, using French yeasts. The wine is then aged in small oak barrels for eleven months. The quality of Stellenbosch wines undoubtedly surpasses that of all other wine-producing regions in South Africa.

Among the many producers in the Stellenbosch appellation, the Laroche - l'Avenir, Spier, Clos Malverne, Dornier, Hartenberg, and Jordan estates are among those that have established the reputation of the terroir.
