Léon Boesch - Alsace Grand Cru Gewurztraminer Zinnkoepflé 2019
92/100
RVF
"A distinguished wine with great potential"
"Gewurztraminer is easily tamed by the strength of the Zinnkoepflé terroir: a wine that is still immature, with plenty of potential." (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2022 - RVF). This prestigious terroir takes its name, "Tête au Soleil" (Head in the Sun), from its south-facing exposure. The vines thrive here at an altitude of up to 430 meters on shell limestone terroir. Gewurztraminer is the king of this steep slope, producing a majestic wine with oriental notes of spices, star anise, and finely mentholated pepper. The palate combines power, finesse, and length.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
Matthieu Boesch returned to the estate in 1999 and quickly decided to take the plunge into organic and biodynamic farming, obtaining certification in 2006. However, virtuous practices are one thing, but it took more time for the wines to find their balance in the glass, for the extra acidity and tension to support each other in the long term. Over the last two vintages, we feel that this is now the case. Good news!

Wine rated (2022 guide) 92/100
Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About wine:
Gewurztraminer is easily tamed by the strength of the Zinnkoepflé terroir: a wine that is still immature, with plenty of potential.
About the estate:
Fervent advocates of biodynamics for over ten years, Matthieu and his wife Marie represent the eleventh generation of the Léon Boesch estate, in the heart of the Vallée Noble. Here, the Zinnkoepflé grand cru is now dedicated to Gewurztraminer, raising it to the status of a benchmark for a dry, full-bodied style. The estate has been practicing biodynamic agriculture since 2000, and the cellar inaugurated in Westhalten in 2010 is a bioclimatic model. The wines have depth and express the terroirs of the area to the fullest.
