Château Malromé
Château Malromé is a very old estate and former family home of the painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Since 2005 and the change of ownership, Château Malromé is on its way to becoming one of the best, if not the benchmark estate of the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation. The Château Malromé vineyard covers around 40 hectares of vines, on exceptional terroir made up of clay-gravel alluvial deposits brought by the formation of the Pyrenean trench that gave birth to the Garonne River.
The Château Malromé estate is now in the hands of Charles Traonouëz, who cultivates his vines by combining quality production with respect for the environment and the terroir. Yields are deliberately controlled through careful attention to the vines throughout their growing cycle, including debudding, leaf removal, suckering, and green harvesting. The emphasis is on achieving optimal ripeness of the grapes. Château Malromé wines are made using traditional Bordeaux methods: the reds are made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec grapes and are aged in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, depending on the vintage. The whites, vinified and aged in barrels, are made from Sémillon, Sauvignon, and Muscadelle grapes, which give them richness, liveliness, and floral aromas, respectively.
