"Top sellers—a huge hit!"

“This very sunny vintage required particular skill during the extraction phase to prioritize the balance between density and freshness. The clay-limestone terroir was a clear asset in 2018. The bouquet is marked by fruit and freshness, making this a fine achievement for such a warm vintage. Hints of red berries and chalky notes. On the palate, the wine is elegant and balanced. Its tannins are refined and in harmony with the acidity. An inviting and compelling wine. A fine success. (Yves Beck 2020)” - A delicious red wine from Pierre Lurton, director of the Yquem and Cheval Blanc estates!

Rated 3 stars (A high-quality product that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Pierre Lurton, who is also director of Château Cheval Blanc and president of Château d’Yquem, purchased Château Marjosse more than twenty years ago, drawn by the old vines and the quality of the terroir: a rarity in the Entre-Deux-Mers region, the asterian limestone—the same that has made Saint-Émilion famous—lies just below the surface here. The quality and consistency of this wine, both white and red, are astonishing. The wines display remarkable balance and purity. They feature vibrant fruit, a silky and harmonious texture, and are highly drinkable while also showing excellent aging potential.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

The estate did not produce a vintage in 2017 due to frost, but it made a strong comeback in 2018. It offers good concentration and savory notes of blackcurrant, licorice, and black pepper. 25% of the wine was aged in 500-liter barrels. 10% Cabernet Sauvignon rounds out the blend. Jean Marc Domme is the new technical director of this estate, owned by Pierre Lurton. 2021–2032

About the wine:

This wine offers a rich bouquet of fresh fig and raspberry, accented by subtle hints of vanilla. Round and well-balanced, it also impresses on the palate with its velvety texture and elegant finish. This wine would pair beautifully with filet mignon and mushrooms. 2022–2026

Rated wine (2019 guide) 90–92/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Marjosse 2018 is composed of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc, with a touch of aged Malbec. Large, old barrels were used for 25% of the vintage. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it opens with a fascinating nose of baking spices, raspberry tart, warm red and black currants, rosehip tea, and fragrant earth, with a hint of wild sage. Medium-bodied, the palate is filled with fragrant red and black fruits, framed by great freshness and soft, supple tannins, and finishes with a floral note.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on January 30, 2024

Harmonious and smooth, this Bordeaux outshines many of its competitors and offers exceptional value for money. MARJOSSE 2018 expresses the quintessence of complex notes of blackcurrant and stewed black cherries, intertwined with subtle hints of wood, blond tobacco, and a spice box. Intensely fragrant and well-structured, the palate is broad and enveloping, offering plenty of volume and remarkable finesse, with a deliciously creamy and delicate texture supported by polished, soft tannins. A delightful finish highlighted by a hint of licorice and a touch of cocoa. With excellent aging potential, this Bordeaux will fully embrace its character as a wine for pleasure, offering elegance and refinement for the next 4 to 5 years. A perfect companion to grilled Bazas beef ribeye with sautéed porcini mushrooms. Rating = 4.3.
