Château Bel Air Perponcher - Réserve 2018
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
“Silvery highlights shimmer in this remarkably balanced wine. It offers a bouquet of exotic fruits (passion fruit, mango, and kiwi) and citrus. Just the right amount of liveliness, suppleness, and richness: the balance is truly exceptional. And the aromas linger long on the finish. (Le Guide des Vins Hachette 2020)”

About the wine:
Silvery highlights shimmer in this remarkably balanced wine. It offers a bouquet of exotic fruits (passion fruit, mango, and kiwi) and citrus. With just the right amount of liveliness, suppleness, and richness, the balance is truly exceptional. And the aromas linger long on the finish.
About the estate:
Formerly owned by the Perponcher family, who were forced to flee to Holland after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, it was acquired in 1990 by the Despagne estate. A vineyard situated on a clay-siliceous plateau overlooking the Dordogne, it is a must-try in Bordeaux (in all three colors), Bordeaux Supérieur, and Entre-deux-Mers.

A very lovely Entre-deux-Mers—more focused on fruit (exotic fruits) and sweetness than on acidity, as is often the case with this type of wine. Beautifully balanced and incredibly rich: a real discovery.

A lovely Sauvignon nose that pairs perfectly with oysters. Great value for the price. Highly recommended.

Tasted in November and then December 2019. Same conclusion: a technical wine with no personality but no flaws either. Lacks liveliness for an Entre-deux-Mers—a favorite? ????
