Clos Floridène
Clos Floridène was gradually established beginning in 1982 by Denis and Florence Dubourdieu—both members of long-established Bordeaux winemaking families—through the purchase of plots in the communes of Pujols-sur-Ciron and Illat, located in the Graves region. The name "Floridène" is a combination of the first names of Mr. and Mrs. Dubourdieu.
The 40-hectare vineyard (17.3 ha of red and 22.7 ha of white) is planted on soils similar to those of Barsac: clay-sand rich in iron oxide over a limestone subsoil. Clos Floridène is composed of a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (72%) blended with 28% Merlot for the red wines. The white vineyard consists of the traditional grape varieties Sémillon (56%), Sauvignon (43%), and Muscadelle (1%). The wines produced are a dry white wine and a red wine bearing theGraves appellation. Since 2004, Floridène has also produced a rosé with a vibrant aromatic profile.
Maintained exclusively through traditional plowing methods, the vineyard soil is treated with no herbicides. Thus, “cultivated like a garden” within an orderly and preserved natural environment, the vines of Clos Floridène ripen early and produce concentrated, flavorful grapes that possess the sweetness and aromatic vibrancy of fresh fruit—qualities that are reflected in the wines.
