Château Balac

Château Balac, owned by the Touchais family since 1964, is now managed by Lionel Touchais, the third generation to run the estate. Situated on a very sunny, gravelly ridge—which had long been the source of this cru’s reputation— Château Balac enjoys a prime location on the main Bordeaux-Soulac highway, near the grand crus.

The Château Balac vineyard, with vines averaging 35 years of age, has now reached maturity, producing rich and balanced wines on soil composed of gravel, clay-limestone, and sandy-loam. Since 2008, the vineyards have been grassed, and the use of synthetic chemicals has been limited. Harvesting is done by hand, driven by a clear commitment to quality and a desire to preserve the tradition and warm hospitality that many visitors come to Château Balac to experience. The estate began its transition to organic farming in 2019.
