Château Balac
Château Balac, owned by the Touchais family since 1964, is now managed by Lionel Touchais, the third generation on the estate. Situated on a sunny, gravelly hilltop that long established this cru’s reputation, Château Balac enjoys a prime location along the main Bordeaux-Soulac highway, close to the grand crus.
The vineyards of Château Balac, with an average age of 35 years, have now reached maturity to produce rich and balanced wines, grown on soil composed of gravel, clay-limestone, and sandy-loam. Since 2008, the vineyards have been grassed, and the use of synthetic chemicals is limited. Harvesting is done by hand, driven by a clear commitment to quality and a desire to uphold the tradition and warm hospitality that many visitors come to Château Balac to experience. The estate began its transition to organic farming in 2019.
