Château Balac
Château Balac, owned by the Touchais family since 1964, is now managed by Lionel Touchais, the third generation on the estate. Situated on a very sunny, gravelly ridge—which long contributed to this cru’s reputation— Château Balac enjoys a prime location on the main Bordeaux-Soulac highway, near the grand crus.
The vineyards at Château Balac, with an average age of 35 years, have now reached maturity, producing rich and balanced wines on soil composed of gravel, clay-limestone, and sandy-loam. Since 2008, the vineyards have been maintained with grass cover, and the use of synthetic chemicals is limited. Harvesting is done by hand, reflecting a clear commitment to quality and a desire to preserve the tradition and warm hospitality that many visitors seek at Château Balac. The estate began its transition to organic farming in 2019.
