About the estate:

A noble estate in the 14th century, this 20-hectare vineyard is dominated by an elegant Chartreuse monastery built by Victor Louis in the late 18th century. It was purchased in 1964 by the Touchais family, who came from the Anjou wine region. Luc Touchais began replanting the vineyard in 1973 and passed it on in 2005 to his son Lionel, an oenologist with extensive experience at various wineries abroad.

About the wine:

Tasted at the annual Cru Bourgeois tasting, the 2015 Château Balac offers a nose of tightly wrapped black fruits, almost overpowering, with hints of cedar and underbrush. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a smooth, velvety texture on the attack, a delicate hint of acidity, and a fairly robust finish that suggests it will benefit from another three years in the bottle. Good potential. Tasted in September 2017.
