Grand Cru Classé

“Lucien Guillemet’s wines, particularly Boyd-Cantenac, have an incomparable style that’s truly distinctive. Some will focus primarily on the oak, which comes through in roasted notes, but it would be a shame to overlook the inviting and obvious fruity notes that enrich the bouquet! On the palate, the wine offers a sumptuous attack! It is dense and charming. Its fine tannins unfold slowly and harmonize with the acid structure. The latter lends vibrancy and ensures a fresh finish. A flavorful and delicious wine that deserves some aging. 2026–2044” (Yves Beck 2021) - Delivered in a wooden case for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding “Point Relais” delivery method)

Wine rated (2020 guide) 94/100

Rated estate (2018 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

Intense and flavorful, with notes of cedar and plenty of character. A wine with aging potential and remarkable value for the price.

About the estate:

This small 17-hectare vineyard is run by its owner, Lucien Guillemet, just like its neighbor, Château Pouget. An agricultural engineer and oenologist, he is a perfectionist who, by nature, steers clear of trends and modernity. He knows his craft inside and out, and in recent vintages has consistently produced well-rounded wines capable of long-term aging.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

A dark, concentrated nose with intense aromas of blackberries. The structure is excellent right from the start. You can really sense the fruit’s density—so well-proportioned and balanced. It’s a rich, full-bodied style on the palate with a refreshing minty note. It has lovely spicy notes and brilliant acidity that propels it forward. The texture is remarkable, with soft yet present tannins that create a very appealing mouthfeel. I really wanted another glass, but it will be even better with a few more years of aging. Drinking window: 2027–2044.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2018 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

A beautiful terroir of lean, siliceous gravel (17 ha), a diverse blend of grape varieties—including Petit Verdot—and a family with deep roots in the Médoc, the Guillemets (owners since 1932). The Guillemets do not follow trends but instead strive for balance and finesse in their wines. An authentic grand cru, established in 1754 by a Belfast wine merchant and managed since 1996 by oenologist and agronomist Lucien Guillemet.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 94/100

Rated estate (2018 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

This wine, with its lovely, soft, and silky body, enveloped by charming but not yet fully integrated oak, will need a little time to develop. It has a nice tannic structure and a beautifully smooth texture.

About the estate:

Lucien Guillemet, a discreet and affable man, manages his estate with the utmost care. Here, there is nothing flashy about the cellars or even the bottles. The wine is nonetheless one of the appellation’s most exciting classic expressions. It ages beautifully in the bottle, eventually revealing itself to be graceful and very silky. The consistency of the most recent vintages has led us to award it a second star this year.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, dried leaves, earth, charcoal, toasted nuts, and graphite. The wine is medium-bodied to full-bodied with firm, tight tannins. Structured and compact with a damp earth character. Try after 2025.

Le Figaro Wines

Le Figaro vins

Wine rated (2022 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

Remarkably smoky on the nose, with notes of charcoal and flowers. On the palate, a wonderful blend of very fresh, crisp fruit and the smoky notes detected on the nose. A lovely finish with coffee aromas.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

Dark, intense, purplish color. Very aromatic, fruity nose with an original hint of hazelnut. Delicate on the palate at first, aromatic in the mid-palate, with a smooth, full-bodied texture and good flavor; the wine develops a slightly austere but flavorful character. Medium-length finish where the oak stands out a bit at this stage, while the tannins remain refined.
