Château Giscours
Château Giscours has a rich history dating back to the 14th century. At that time, a defensive keep overlooked a wild and inhospitable countryside. But it all really began in 1552, when Pierre de Lhomme, a wealthy cloth merchant from Bordeaux, bought the noble house of "Guyscoutz," built a vast estate around it, and planted the very first vines.

The Château Giscours wine-making adventure was well underway, and the successors to our wealthy merchant were also able to contribute to this formidable enterprise. It was in the 19th century, under the impetus of the Promis, Pescatore and Cruse families, that Château Giscours was adorned with its finest features: the transformation of the château into a neoclassical palace, the creation of a park with rare species by landscape architect Eugène Bulher, and the modernization of production tools with the construction of huge farm buildings, including the famous "Ferme Suzanne.".

Since early 1995, Château Giscours has been managed by Eric Albada Jelgersma, who immediately invested in renovating the vineyard and farm buildings. He has surrounded himself with a new team that now runs Giscours, continuing the tradition of generations of winegrowers who have made this estate a world-renowned Grand Cru.

Chateau Giscours is a remarkable terroir that has produced one of the most acclaimed Margaux appellation wines in the world. This rich and voluptuous wine enjoys a fine international reputation thanks to its powerful aroma and refined tannins. Wine lovers will confirm that Chateau Giscours Margaux has a strong personality that will grow stronger with each passing year.

The Giscours estate

Chateau Giscours has been awarded the title of 3rd Grand Cru Classé of Margaux. The second wine is La Sirène de Giscours.
The current owners of the Giscours estate are the Tari family. The vineyard covers 87 hectares and the average age of the vines is 40 years, with a quarter of them being that age. They have a high density of between 8,300 and 10,000 vines per hectare. The vineyard is planted on three hillsides of gravel and sand, as well as on a clay-limestone base. These are moistened by a small river called Le Cordet.

The unique characteristics of Château Giscours

The wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 months. The grapes are harvested by hand with care and precision. The cellar master is responsible for the wine's blend, which is as follows: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. The Cabernets are harvested for three good reasons: their freshness, structure, and density. The Merlots, meanwhile, are selected for their richness and roundness.
The grapes ripen perfectly thanks to the gravelly soil, which attracts the sun's rays, and the mild, favorable climate. The gravel maintains a good temperature even after nightfall. Maceration takes place over time, like an infusion, rather than depending on the amount of work done in the vats.
Château Giscours stands out for its full-bodied, fruity, woody taste and its purple color, enhanced with blue-black highlights. The wine is smooth, with a slightly spicy flavor. It's a real treat for the taste buds! On the palate, it delivers aromas of ripe fruit, with notes that linger on the finish.
According to wine experts, Château Giscours 2011 reveals black and red fruits with hints of vanilla and toast. Fresh floral aromas are instantly apparent on the nose.

Other wines from Château Giscours

The Siren of Giscours
This is the second wine of Margaux's Third Growth, combining traditional expertise with modern techniques. The precision and care taken during racking ensure its high quality. This fruity, supple Bordeaux Château Giscours offers the same elegance as the First Growth. Made from the youngest vines, this wine undergoes a long and rigorous selection process.

The Haut-Médoc Giscours
Haut-Médoc appellation wine is distinguished by its great finesse. Very pleasant on the palate, it offers a voluptuous blend of fruit and spices. It is produced in the same way as the château's two other labels. On tasting, you can sense the freshness of young fruit and its aroma. This wine is best drunk young, but will reveal its aromatic richness after a few years.

Rosé X Giscours
This wine is the youngest of the family. This terroir rosé charms with its light white flower aromas and clear color. It symbolizes the modernity of great wine production. Its reputation precedes it: it was voted "best Bordeaux rosé"!
