Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2021 guide) 95/100

Rated estate (2018 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

The mutual insurance group MACSF, now the owner of this very important property, is doing everything possible to ensure its prestige and quality, under the effective leadership of Dominique Befve. The wine, always made from very ripe grapes, has a fullness and smoothness that is rare in Margaux, and the charm and finesse of the second wine, Chevalier-de-Lascombes, with its seductive aromas, is a delight.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2018 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the estate:

Founded in the 15th century by the knight Antoine de Lascombes, acquired in 1952 by Alexis Lichine, then by the Bass & Charrington wine merchant in 1971, this estate lay dormant until it was bought in 2001 by the American investment fund Colony Capital. A major program was implemented under the leadership of Dominique Befve, formerly of the Rothschild estates, to renovate this vast, highly fragmented 112-hectare vineyard. Lascombes, acquired in 2011 by MACSF, has now regained its status.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 95/100

Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About wine:

The wine displays its usual flamboyance, with ample, ripe but not candied fruit. Beautiful notes of black fruit, with a finish featuring generous but mellow tannins. This is a Lascombes with great potential, very appealing.

About the estate:

After coming under the control of MACSF, the mutual insurance company for healthcare professionals, in 2011, Lascombes has regained its composure and can now look to the future. The new owner makes no secret of his ambition to raise Lascombes to the level of a very good second growth. Under the leadership of Dominique Befve, the estate has already made good progress in recent years, taking another step forward in the early 2010s. It is now consistent.

Terre de Vins

Wine rated (2021 guide) 95-96/100

About wine:

The initial nose is discreet, gradually opening up to reveal blackcurrant purée enhanced by menthol notes. The palate is very straightforward, with a bright attack reminiscent of After Eight chocolates. The texture is full and easy to drink, supported by a lovely layer of tannins. With a fresh and savory finish, this is a wine that demands to be enjoyed.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 95/100

About wine:

The charm that Château Lascombes is known for is, of course, highly acclaimed in 2020! The bouquet is very inviting with notes of coffee and chocolate, complemented by hints of iris, grenadine, and raspberries. Smooth from the outset, Lascombes is well supported by fine-grained tannins. An inviting, seductive but also convincing wine. A charmer that knows its own worth! 2025-2037
