Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2018 guide) 18/20 (Reference wine)
Rated estate (2018 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the wine:
Deep color, a rich bouquet of very ripe fruit, full-bodied with a robust texture, perfectly integrated tannins, and excellent aging potential. As appealing as ever, yet with the depth of a true great wine.
About the estate:
The mutual insurance group MACSF, now the owner of this highly prestigious estate, is doing everything in its power to uphold its prestige and quality, under the effective leadership of Dominique Befve. The wine, always made from very ripe grapes, possesses a fullness and smoothness rarely found in Margaux, and one must rejoice in the charm and finesse of the second wine, Chevalier-de-Lascombes, which embodies the aromatic allure of the vineyard.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2018 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
Founded in the 15th century by Chevalier Antoine de Lascombes, acquired in 1952 by Alexis Lichine, and then by the wine merchant Bass & Charrington in 1971, this estate lay dormant until its purchase in 2001 by the American investment fund Colony Capital. A major program was launched under the leadership of Dominique Befve, formerly of the Rothschild estates, to renovate this vast, highly fragmented 112-hectare vineyard. Lascombes, acquired in 2011 by MACSF, has now regained its former standing.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rated (2016 guide) 16/20 (Very good)
About the wine:
A wine with a bold character, featuring a rich bouquet of almost candied black cherries, with a hint of reduction. A dense, juicy tannic structure.
Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Wine rated (2018 guide) 94/100 (Outstanding wine)
Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
Deep garnet in color, the 2015 Lascombes reveals a beautiful nose of Black Forest cake, violets, blackcurrant, and freshly tilled earth, with hints of garrigue and potpourri. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, very refined and elegant, with extremely intense yet well-balanced notes of the forest floor. The finish is long and flavorful.

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated wine (2018 guide) 17/20 + Favorite (Great wine)
Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
What volume and intensity! It offers a palate of very ripe, expressive fruit, yet finishes without any heaviness.
About the estate:
Since coming under the ownership of MACSF, the mutual insurance company for healthcare professionals, in 2011, Lascombes has regained its composure and can now look to the future with confidence. The new owner makes no secret of his ambition to elevate Lascombes to the level of a very good second growth. Under the direction of Dominique Befve, the wine has already made significant progress in recent years, taking another step forward in the early 2010s. It is now consistent.
Wine Enthusiast
Wine rated (2018 guide) 96/100
About the wine:
A powerful wine, aged in oak, which adds richness to its dense tannins. The significant extraction does not overpower the ripe fruit or the structure and will mellow with time. It should be ready to drink by 2026.
