“2002, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2011: a blessed decade for Lascombes, which confirms its return to the highest level and seems to handle even the most challenging vintages with admirable ease (though 2010, of course, stands apart as a truly great year). The color is intense, almost black, and the nose is powerful and complex: sweet spices, licorice, black fruits, truffle, toasted almond... On the palate: dense, full-bodied, concentrated, vigorous, built on “robust yet refined” tannins with a very fine grain. A Margaux of great classicism, a perfect blend of elegance and strength. Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 18/20 (Top-rated wine)
Rated estate (2018 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the wine:
It continues to develop beautifully, with the wonderfully floral character of a great Pinot Noir—long, smooth, and refined—everything one would expect from a fine Margaux.
About the estate:
The mutual insurance group MACSF, now the owner of this highly significant estate, is doing everything in its power to uphold its prestige and quality, under the effective leadership of Dominique Befve. The wine, always made from very ripe grapes, possesses a fullness and smoothness rarely found in Margaux, and one must rejoice in the charm and finesse of the second wine, Chevalier-de-Lascombes, which embodies the aromatic allure of the vineyard.

About the estate:
Founded in the 15th century by Chevalier Antoine de Lascombes, acquired in 1952 by Alexis Lichine, and then by the wine merchant Bass & Charrington in 1971, this estate lay dormant until its acquisition in 2001 by the American investment fund Colony Capital. A major program was launched under the leadership of Dominique Befve, formerly of the Rothschild estates, to renovate this vast, highly fragmented 112-hectare vineyard. Lascombes, acquired in 2011 by MACSF, has now regained its former standing.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rated (2015 guide) 17/20 (Outstanding)
About the wine:
What a delight this vintage is, already ready to drink. It has a powdery style, which was already noted during the en primeur tastings and was confirmed in January 2014. The texture on the palate evolves into something velvety while retaining its savory, juicy character and crisp fruitiness.

Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
Since coming under the ownership of MACSF, the mutual insurance company for healthcare professionals, in 2011, Lascombes has regained its composure and can now look to the future. The new owner makes no secret of his ambition to elevate Lascombes to the level of a very good second growth. Under the direction of Dominique Befve, the wine has already made significant progress in recent years, taking another step forward in the early 2010s. It is now consistent.
