“This is one of the best vintages I’ve tasted, and the quality just keeps soaring! ~ Jeb Dunnuck”

“A beautiful, fruity bouquet of blueberry pie, blackcurrant, and strawberry. The wine is very clean and precise, despite the vintage’s undeniable richness. A fine balancing act between perfectly ripe fruit, refreshing acidity, and beautifully refined tannins that gracefully coat the palate. A refined, subtle, and elegant 2020.” (Terre de Vins 2021) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

Under the capable leadership of Ludovic David, with the full support of the Sénéclauze family—owners of the 40-hectare vineyard since 1935—this wine has gradually refined its tannic structure and the integration of its oak aging. Ludovic David has brought about a true revolution in the winemaking and aging of this wine, which benefits from a remarkable terroir, equipping it with the most modern tools. This has allowed it to rediscover its Margaux character and, since 2010, to rival the best wines in the region.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

Aroma of roses and patchouli. The palate is sleek and charming, sumptuous yet understated and delicate. The structure and length are excellent, with distinct floral aromas and fresh blueberries accented by herbaceous notes. It isn’t overly heavy; rather, it is linear and concentrated, yet full of style. Pretty, seductive, and lively—all in the best possible way—with a juicy core. An excellent vintage this year and a wine that will be ready to drink soon but will age well. Elegant, refined, cool, and classic. 2025–2039

Rated wine (2024 guide) 2*Stars (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

With its deep color, this Margaux needs a little time to breathe before slowly but surely opening up to reveal complex aromas of ripe black fruit, violet, sweet spices, cedar, mint, and licorice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, velvety, dense, and juicy, with plenty of fruit, supported by an intense tannic structure, before lingering into a beautiful, long, spicy finish. 2028–2040

About the estate:

Straddling the towns of Margaux and Cantenac, this estate—founded in 1762—has been owned by the Sénéclauze family since 1935. At the helm of the 40-hectare vineyard since 2009 is Ludovic David, an agricultural engineer who cut his teeth in the Libourne region under Bernard Magrez. In 2019, a restaurant opened to complement the existing tourist offerings.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 94/100

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

This vintage exhibits a ripe, full-bodied character, with a firm structure underpinned by abundant tannins. The wine is still somewhat disjointed and will require patient aging. As we often say: “the tannins need to soften.”

About the estate:

Owned by the Sénéclauze family, this understated wine has been gaining in depth and precision over the past few vintages. This is due in part to Ludovic David, the estate’s director, who has taken charge of the vineyard and modernized the winemaking facilities. The desire to produce fuller-bodied wines, and above all, wines with more velvety tannins, is clearly evident; all that is missing is a touch of additional refinement, which seems to be emerging in the very latest vintages.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

The nose reveals aromas of licorice, black cherry, blackberry, cocoa, crushed stone, and violet. On the palate, the wine is silky, smooth, and creamy, with a rich array of succulent red and black fruits, and a hint of spicy chocolate that lingers from the mid-palate through the finish. Best enjoyed between 2025 and 2050.
