This Margaux estate, situated on the beautiful gravel soils of Labarde, has been managed by Édouard Miailhe since 2007. Siran’s wines are always charming in their youth and develop greater complexity with age, notably featuring notes of old-fashioned roses and spices that lend them finesse and elegance. Siran’s wines could be classified as Margaux classics. Since the 2015 vintage, there has been a noticeable shift in style, which now leans more toward extreme power. To be continued.

About the wine:

With a beautiful depth of color, the 2020 Siran opens with inviting and complex aromas of ripe red fruits (raspberry, redcurrant), violet, forest floor, and spices. On the palate, it is straightforward, fresh, refined, and elegant, with firm but not harsh tannins and a lovely, dynamic, and fruity finish. A clean, precise Margaux. 2027–2033

About the estate:

Once owned by Toulouse-Lautrec’s great-grandmother, Château Siran became part of the Miailhe family in 1859. Since 2007, Édouard Miailhe has been at the helm. The vineyard spans 36 hectares: 9 hectares in Bordeaux Supérieur, 2 hectares in Haut-Médoc, and 25 hectares in Margaux, in the southern part of the appellation, on the gravelly plateau of Labarde; a terroir of such high quality that it would undoubtedly have earned it a place in the famous 1855 classification had the Miailhes arrived earlier.

We tasted the 2020 vintage, which lives up to all its promises and is set to become the best Siran we’ve ever tasted. It’s a wine that’s perfectly balanced, taut, and precise, with great length and elegance in its tannins. It’s a wine you can happily leave in the cellar.

About the estate:

This superbly situated Margaux estate would certainly deserve to be ranked among the classified growths, especially since, under the stewardship of Edouard Miailhe, it has reached its peak. Its remarkable terroir, located in the appellation’s southernmost commune (Labarde), stretches across a superb plateau of siliceous gravel. Tasting the older vintages that the château is fortunate enough to possess in its cellar helps one appreciate the full potential of the estate. The past decade has taken it to truly remarkable heights, and these wines will age beautifully.

Tasted from the barrel. All the elements are clearly present in this wine from the southernmost part of Margaux. This is a very promising estate, and the wine combines powerful tannins with richly defined black fruit. It will age well.

This wine is very structured and offers aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, and iodine. It is full-bodied, concentrated, and exceptionally well-defined. It exudes great class and precision. An excellent Siran. Best enjoyed after 2026.
