“The underdog of the Médoc!”

“A very lovely expression of Cabernet: refined and complex aromas, pure fruit, gentle spices, elegant oak, powerful and well-structured on the palate, with a solid, straightforward framework, vigor, and great length. Built to age. ” (Bettane & Desseauve Wine Guide). A great Médoc! • Delivered in a wooden case for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding Point Relais delivery method)

Wine rated 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the wine:

A beautiful expression of Cabernet: refined and complex aromas, pure fruit, subtle spices, and elegant oak; powerful and well-structured on the palate, with a solid, straightforward framework, vigor, and a long finish. Built to age.

About the estate:

Françoise and Stéphane Dief’s vineyards are located in the commune of Saint-Christoly, and through meticulous winemaking and oak aging, they produce Clos-Manou, with the aim of creating a wine suitable for aging—one that is exceptionally pure and of great stylistic perfection. For the Petit-Manou, part of the harvest is now aged in seven-hectoliter concrete eggs. These are reds deeply rooted in the Médoc terroir, with the structure necessary for aging. The ambitious Clos-Manou cuvée demonstrates great expertise, but the second wine, Petit-Manou, is also well worth a try.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2019) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

While not intended to rival certain particularly successful vintages from the past, this 2015 is by no means lacking in character. This is evident in its deep, dense color, its intense bouquet rich with woody, fruity, and spicy notes, and its well-structured palate, which is full-bodied, tannic, and well-balanced.

About the estate:

In 1998, Stéphane Dief and his wife Françoise leased 12 ares of land to establish their vineyard. Through the purchase of plots and the acquisition of carefully selected small vineyards, their estate now spans 17 hectares, including some very old vines, notably a small pre-phylloxera plot of Merlot planted in 1850. It has become a benchmark in the Médoc.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 90+/100 (An outstanding wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2015 Clos Manou is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. It aged for 17 months, with 60% in new French oak, 28% in one-year-old barrels from nine different coopers, and 12% in concrete eggs. Deep garnet-purple in color, it offers intense aromas of black cherries and black plums with hints of violet, licorice, and fertile soil. The medium- to full-bodied palate is rich with firm, grainy tannins—it is an impressive wine with a long, fragrant finish.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2022 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

The 2015 vintage is remarkable, with fruit that retains its vibrancy and a full-bodied, rich, and smooth palate. The tannins are beautifully defined.

About the estate:

This small 18-hectare estate, located in the northern Médoc in the town of Saint-Christoly, is passionately managed by Françoise and Stéphane Dief. Meticulous vineyard management and expertly executed winemaking give the wines both charm and depth. A wonderful discovery off the beaten path of the Grand Cru Classé route, offering remarkable value for money.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

A deep, rich red with aromas and flavors of plums, berries, and cherries. It has good body, supple tannins, and a savory finish. Beautiful density and depth. Best in 2020, but already a pleasure to drink.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on April 9, 2024

Thanks to an exceptional 2015 vintage, Clos Manou is now at its peak, fully developed and perfectly ripe. The palate delights with its opulence and density, supported by fine, soft tannins that release a rich palette of flavors—slightly sweet black berries and fresh violets—against a rich, full-bodied backdrop accompanied by hints of undergrowth and subtle oak. The wine is harmonious, deep, and warm, right through its superb finish. A score of 4.2 for this Médoc with a beautiful personality that still retains good aging potential. Pairs well after decanting with a duck confit parmentier.

Review by Mr. PIRAS P. Published on August 26, 2022

I don't know why, but all three bottles were bad—nothing like the 2013 I had before. Plus, the cork had changed, and the smell when I opened it was off-putting. Once I tasted it, well, nothing—it just wasn't good. Whereas the previous vintages were magnificent. Disappointed by the 2015.
