"A classic Médoc, true to its style and appellation. Spicy on the nose. Supple and harmonious, with a fresh, fruity flavor and ripe, refined tannins that are never harsh." (Le Grand Guide des Vins de France 2010 - Bettane & Desseauve)

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Rated estate (2012 guide): 4*Stars (Very high-quality production)

About the estate:

“Acquired in 1965 by Marc Pagès—who has since passed away, but two of whose grandsons are still involved at La Tour de By—the château is beautifully situated on the banks of the Gironde. Now covering nearly 100 hectares, the vineyard includes a beautiful plot near the château, on magnificent Garonne gravel soils, as well as another located in Saint-Christoly, on clay-limestone soil. La Tour de By has been managed since 2005 by Frédéric Le Clerc, one of Marc Pagès’s grandsons.”

Rated Estate (2012 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the excellence of French wine production.)

About the estate:

“A good half of the vineyard occupies the most beautiful ridge of Gunjian gravel in Bégadan, along the river, in a magnificent setting. The microclimate favors Merlot and Cabernet, planted in equal proportions. The château owes much to the dedication of Marc Pagès, who has since passed away. His heirs are continuing along the same path, pushing even further in their pursuit of maturity and precision in winemaking. The most recent vintages are impressive.”
