Bettane & Desseauve
Winery rated 1*Star (A high-quality, recommended production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
Now it is the highly dedicated and enthusiastic Mélanie Barton-Sartorius who is applying her expertise as an oenologist, combined with her family’s long-standing tradition, to this estate purchased by her parents five years ago. The result speaks for itself. A wine of character, with the exuberance of Moulis, the distinction of the terroir, and the balance resulting from proper winemaking and grapes harvested at just the right moment. Undoubtedly an estate to watch, which is already making its mark in the appellation.
Guide Hachette des vins

About the estate:
Owned by a Neo-Louis XIII-style château dating from 1853, this estate comprises a beautiful, contiguous 220-hectare property, 58 hectares of which are planted with vines. In August 2011, the estate was purchased by Lilian and Michel Barton-Sartorius, whose family already owned the Château Lalande and Château Langoa in Saint-Julien.

About the wine:
The 2015 vintage is appealing, in keeping with the family’s winemaking style, with a beautiful expression of fruit and an expressive, smooth palate.
About the estate:
This estate, which had been struggling for some time, has been given a new lease on life since its acquisition by the Barton family (Léoville Barton and Langoa Barton). It is now run by Anthony’s granddaughter, Mélanie Sartorius. Once again, the wines produced here reflect the velvety, smooth character that has made the family’s wines so successful. These are very approachable and highly recommended wines.
