Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

This classified growth is situated on beautiful gravel terraces between Grand Puy Lacoste and Lynch-Bages. Jean Philippe Quié and his sister Anne-Françoise are determined to give it every opportunity to flourish, and there has been real progress since 2015, even if the 2016 vintage hasn't quite fulfilled all the promise shown in the barrel tastings before bottling. A new winery should help to definitively solidify these improvements.

Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Like Rauzan-Gassies in Margaux, this estate belongs to the Quié family. It may not have the resources of the appellation's top producers, but it can nevertheless be tender and delicious in good vintages. In such cases, it represents a good deal for wine lovers, thanks to its very reasonable prices.
