Wine rated (2019 guide) 17,5/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

A full-bodied wine with an intense color and rich texture, offering the lingering finish one expects from a fine Pauillac, along with well-defined notes of Havana tobacco.

About the estate:

World-renowned for its opulence and consistency, this Pauillac Fifth Growth has been owned by the Cazes family since the 1930s and has gained widespread acclaim since Jean-Michel Cazes took over its management in 1973. Following the successful handover from Jean-Michel to his son Jean-Charles, the estate has maintained all its vigor and vitality in recent vintages, retaining its depth while gaining precision in its tannins. The château produces an increasingly stylish dry white Bordeaux, though we still await a more precise wine for the second label, Écho. A new fermentation cellar is under construction, and it promises to be monumental, as the estate must hold its own in a highly competitive world!

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2019) 2* Favorite (Remarkable wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

The tasters were literally captivated by this remarkable 2015. Still influenced by the oak, the nose reveals roasted and vanilla notes; then, as it opens up, dark fruit takes center stage, accompanied by subtle aromas of forest floor and leather. On the palate, one discovers a rich, velvety texture that is not without a powerful structure, supported by firm tannins. The superb, long, chocolatey finish prolongs the pleasure. A great success that will require patience.

About the estate:

The name of this wine combines that of the Irish merchants who owned it in the 18th century with that of a hamlet located just south of Pauillac. Since the 1930s, its success has been the result of the tireless efforts of three generations of the Cazes family: Jean-Charles, André, and Jean-Michel. The contribution of Jean-Michel, who has since handed the reins to his son Jean-Charles, has been essential. His success is linked to the quality of the wines, produced from a vast 100-hectare vineyard, as well as to a sound development strategy that includes wine trading and tourism infrastructure (hotel-restaurant, shops).

Wine rated (2018 guide) 92+/100 (Outstanding wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

With its medium-deep purple-violet color, this 2015 Lynch-Bages offers aromas of crushed blackberries, black cherries, and dried grass with an earthy note. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, straightforward, and taut, with lively, chewy fruit on the finish.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

We never doubted the immense potential of the 2015 vintage, and it has certainly delivered, with a flamboyant wine of immense class. It is entirely in keeping with the spirit of the vineyard, with a finish that’s a veritable fireworks display of flavors.

About the estate:

Jean-Charles Cazes now bears the responsibility of steering this prestigious Pauillac estate. His father, Jean-Michel—an exceptional figure in the Médoc, a tireless ambassador for Bordeaux wines, and the architect of this Fifth Growth’s reputation—is, however, never far away. The magnificent family estate, superbly situated on the Bages plateau, has produced an impressive series of wines without a single weak point since the early 1970s, establishing its rich, seductive, and immediately accessible style, while remaining capable of aging gracefully. Now equipped with a spectacular, brand-new, state-of-the-art winery, the estate is more on track than ever, and its popularity among many wine lovers is simply a fitting reward.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 96/100

About the wine:

This vintage was ideal for the rich style that this winery has made its own. This wine is full-bodied and ripe, with notes of blackcurrant and dark berries. The tannins settle into the wine with ease and richness. Of course, this wine needs to age, so wait until 2026.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

Notes of blackberries and plum aromas, with some floral hints as well. The palate is very smooth, polished, and regal, with tannins framing a core of ripe black fruit. A succulent and impressive finish. Best enjoyed starting in 2022.
