About the estate:

World-renowned for its opulence and consistency, this Pauillac Fifth Growth has been owned by the Cazes family since the 1930s and has gained widespread acclaim since Jean-Michel Cazes took over its management in 1973. Following the successful handover from Jean-Michel to his son Jean-Charles, the estate has maintained all its vigor and vitality in recent vintages, retaining its depth while gaining precision in its tannins. The château produces an increasingly stylish dry white Bordeaux, though we still await a more precise wine for the second label, Écho. A new fermentation cellar is under construction, and it promises to be monumental, as the estate must hold its own in a highly competitive world!

Intense, deep, and dark aromas with wonderful Cabernet notes on the nose. It’s incredibly impactful from the very first sip; the wine takes hold of the palate and sweeps across it with power, yet in a well-balanced and harmonious way. The fruit is rich and supported by tannins that, although they completely fill the mouth, seem quite ripe and delicate, with a backbone of minty freshness. A seductive Pauillac with a dark, concentrated, and direct profile, yet one that has much to offer. It has not yet reached its full potential. 2026–2047

The name of this wine combines that of the Irish merchants who owned it in the 18th century with that of a hamlet located just south of Pauillac. Since the 1930s, its success has been the result of the tireless efforts of three generations of the Cazes family: Jean-Charles, André, and Jean-Michel. The contribution of Jean-Michel, who has since handed the reins to his son Jean-Charles, has been essential. His success is linked to the quality of the wines, produced from a vast 100-hectare vineyard, as well as to a sound development strategy that includes wine trading and tourism infrastructure (hotel-restaurant, shops).

Lynch Bages 2019 is just as magnificent in the bottle as it was in the barrel—if not more so. What a wine! Imposing and upright in its structure, this 2019 is truly breathtaking. It retains Lynch Bages’s captivating charm, but what particularly sets this vintage apart is its backbone of tannins and energy. Time in the glass brings out sweet red cherry, plum, blood orange, pomegranate, and mint. This 2019 is a great, great, great Lynch Bages. It reminds me of the epic 1989, but with the youthful vigor of this vintage. An imposing Pauillac, the 2019 Lynch Bages will be an excellent addition to your cellar. 2031–2059

Fantastic aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, pencil shavings, and violets. The nose is so Pauillac! Full-bodied, with a dense, layered palate and tight yet velvety tannins that give the wine depth and substance. Compact. Silky. Long finish. It reminds me of a modern yet classic take on something like the wonderful 1985 Lynch. Best enjoyed after 2026.

Even better in the bottle than it was in the barrel, this 2019 is clearly a contender for the best vintage Lynch Bages has ever produced! And that’s saying something, given all the fabulous wines that have come from the estate over the past few decades. With an almost opaque color, the wine bursts from the glass with aromas of blackcurrant, espresso, blackberry, damp earth, tobacco leaf, forest floor, and cedar. As if that weren’t enough for your senses, your palate is enveloped in layers of perfectly ripe, rich, and dense dark red fruit, with hints of spice, plums, blueberries, licorice, espresso, and a touch of dark chocolate on the finish. It is intense, concentrated, long, and expansive, and above all, it is an excellent candidate for long-term aging. Best enjoyed between 2030 and 2065.
