Cabernet Sauvignon
Grand Cru Classé

“[...] The bouquet is well-defined, opening with aromas of raspberry and wild strawberries; the oak is well-integrated, and pleasant aromas of the forest floor emerge with aeration. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with supple tannins and well-balanced acidity, leading to a lingering, spicy finish. This is a refined wine, in the same vein as the 2014 vintage—fresh and elegant— which was not the case 10 years ago.” (Wine Advocate 2016) Delivered in a wooden case for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding “Point Relais” delivery method)

Wine rated (2018 guide) 15,5/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the wine:

Fruity, harmonious, and well-balanced, this wine is best enjoyed relatively soon, but it offers lovely fruit and a tenderness rarely found in Pauillac.

About the estate:

Philippe Castéja has worked tirelessly to restore a magnificent family estate located in the Pauillac hinterland. The aging of the vines and the development of an efficient production facility have made it possible to produce a supple, full-bodied wine that is constantly improving. Its terroir allows it to open up earlier than most wines in its appellation, which should make it more prominent on restaurant wine lists, offering good value for money.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

Owned by the Count of Lynch since the 18th century, until it was divided into two estates: Lynch Moussas and Lynch-Bages. Émile Castéja, who joined the family in 1919, took over the estate in 1969 and restructured the vineyards and winery. His son Philippe has been at the helm since 2001 of this 35-hectare estate, located near Batailley, which is also owned by the Castéja family.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 16/20 + Favorite (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

The 2015 is at its best, with beautiful definition and a full-bodied mouthfeel we hadn't seen in this wine before. It is well-rounded and has a lovely texture, with elegant tannins. One to watch closely.

About the estate:

For several years now, Philippe Castéja has been breathing new life into this classified growth. Winemaker Denis Dubourdieu has done a thorough job here, starting with taking the vineyard under his wing. Over the past few vintages, the wines have improved, and the château now benefits from technical facilities that should allow it to go even further. Lynch-Moussas produces a relatively refined wine of medium body that can be enjoyed fairly quickly.

Wine Enthusiast

Wine rated (2018 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

This estate has improved significantly, producing very impressive wines in recent vintages. The wine is structured and tannic, yet also bursting with black fruit, with good acidity and spicy notes. It will need time to develop; wait until at least 2025 to drink it.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 93/100

Rated: Recommended

About the wine:

The oak comes through more prominently here, leading the nose with creamy cake spices against a backdrop of ripe blackcurrants and red plums. The palate is richly full-bodied with red cherry and plum, before supple tannins give way to a well-crafted finish. 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot. Try it starting in 2021.
