“Still developing but already focused and complex, the bouquet blends very ripe, almost candied black fruits with spices, licorice, and well-integrated vanilla and toasted notes. This harmonious influence of aging is reflected in a full-bodied and rich palate, as elegant as it is powerful. Persistent and expressive, the finish lingers on fine tannins that promise excellent aging potential.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2014) - Delivered in a wooden case for orders of 6 bottles of this wine

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2014 guide) 16,5/20 (Reference wine)

Rated Estate (2016 Guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, though we are unable to offer a general assessment of the style of its entire range)

About the wine:

Slightly more taut than the 2009, this vintage offers a supple, smooth wine with great finesse. The finish features structured, flavorful tannins.

About the estate:

Owned by Axa, this vineyard is ideally situated on a gravelly ridge, with such prestigious neighbors as Pontet-Canet and d’Armailhac. With the acquisition of Château Tour Pibran in 2001, the choice of vineyard plots allowed Jean-René Matignon and the teams at Pichon-Baron to select the best for Pibran and create a second wine.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine rated (2014 guide) 3***Étoiles (Exceptional wine)

Rated estate Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

Pibran is vinified by the same teams as Château Pichon Baron, also owned by Axa Millésimes. Completely restructured following the insurance company’s acquisition of the neighboring estate (Tour Pibran), this estate has now risen to the level of the greatest, judging by its wine, which stands out for its impressive character. Still developing but already concentrated and complex, the bouquet blends very ripe, almost candied black fruits with spices, licorice, and well-integrated vanilla and toasted notes. This harmonious influence of aging is reflected in a full-bodied and rich palate, as elegant as it is powerful. Persistent and expressive, the finish lingers on fine tannins that promise excellent aging potential. This wine will reveal itself further in three to five years and can be cellared for a good decade.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated (2012 guide) 18/20 (Outstanding)

About the wine:

Lulled by a bewildering sensuality, the flavors emerge from beneath this delicate robe. The smooth texture on the palate, composed of dark fruits, unleashes its full-bodied character, and the wine bursts with exemplary complexity. Time will reveal its full potential. Masterful!

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate

Wine rated (2013 guide) 90/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

A standout of the vintage, this understated Pauillac from the owners of Pichon Longueville comes from a 42-hectare vineyard, with the blend split equally between the two grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Classic notes of barbecue smoke intertwined with blackcurrant, undergrowth, and cedar leap from the glass; a deep purple, full-bodied wine with a creamy, rich, and dense texture, ready to drink in 3–4 years. Furthermore, it should age for up to two decades. It is not an overly expensive wine, as consumers do not follow it closely—a fact my readers should take note of.

Wine rated (2015 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2016 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

Open and appealing, the 2010 is crisp, full of fruit, and beautifully balanced.

About the estate:

Located on the hillside between Pontet-Canet and Armailhac, Pibran was acquired by AXA Millésimes in 1987. Winemaker Jean-René Matignon, from Pichon-Longueville, crafts this wine, which consistently stands out among the elite of the crus bourgeois, characterized by a very classic Pauillac style that blends richness with tannic structure. Full-bodied, aromatic, and approachable early on, it ages well and with grace.
