“The revelation of the vintage, the 2008 Pichon Longueville Baron is one of the densest and most concentrated wines from Pauillac in 2008. Its inky purple color is followed by aromas and flavors of crème de cassis, blackberry, charcoal, coffee, and licorice. Exceptionally full-bodied with velvety tannins and undeniable appeal, this magnificent, well-proportioned 2008 should age effortlessly for two decades or more.” (Wine Advocate Feb. 2012 - Robert Parker) • Delivered in a wooden case for orders of 6 bottles of this wine shipped within France •

Rated estate (2017 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the glories of the French vineyard)

About the estate:

The estate's flagship wine is produced directly opposite Château Latour, on perfectly drained gravelly soils benefiting from the microclimate of the Gironde estuary. Pichon possesses the vigor and power of the greatest Médoc wines, in a remarkably pure style lovingly overseen by Jean-René Matignon, one of Bordeaux's most experienced technical directors. All recent vintages are outstanding, displaying the same classic character linked to the dominant Cabernet Sauvignon and the mineral and graphite notes of the terroir. The second wine, Tourelles, has improved considerably, but the real novelty is the introduction of another wine, Griffons, in 2012, made from younger vines in the prime vineyards, and a very successful one at that.

Rated estate (2017 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

The original vineyard was established in the 17th century by Jacques de Pichon, Baron of Longueville. Divided in two in 1850, part of the estate went to Raoul de Pichon-Longueville (the other half becoming Pichon Comtesse), who built the current château. Inspired by the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau, the building contrasts with the horizontal lines of the winery, constructed after the estate was acquired in 1987 by Axa Millésimes. The insurance company undertook significant renovations, initially led by Jean-Michel Cazes, then by Christian Seely, with Jean-René Matignon overseeing the technical aspects. Since 2001, the selection process has been intensified: only 40 hectares of the 73 hectares of this exceptional terroir, composed of fine Garonne gravel and located next to Latour, are now used for the grand vin.

Rated 3* (2017 guide) (They represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment)

About the estate:

This superb second-growth classified estate has produced a series of truly astonishing wines and stands at the very top of the Médoc hierarchy. Impossible to miss from the wine route, the sumptuous "Pichon Baron" estate has been completely renovated in less than two decades, and the team led by Christian Seely has done exemplary work, propelling Pichon Baron to the pinnacle of Médoc wines. The winemaking facilities and aging cellars, as well as the extensively replanted vineyards, have allowed it to achieve a historic level of quality in recent vintages. It should be noted that the second wine is now called Les Griffons de Pichon Baron, as Les Tourelles has become a separate brand with its own independent vineyard.
