Château Bouscaut
Château Bouscaut was bought by the Chabanneaux family at the end of the 19th century. The name Bouscaut (after the locality) appeared under their aegis around 1881, replacing the name Haut Truchon. In 1925, Victor Place and the Comte de Rivaud became owners and set about restoring the property to its former glory. In 1961, a fire completely destroyed the château. In 1968, they sold the property to a group of investors from New York, who entrusted the management of the vineyard to Haut-Brion's estate managers. Finally, Bouscaut was acquired by Lucien Lurton in 1979. Today, the 4th generation is at the helm with Sophie Lurton, Lucien's daughter, to whom he gave the property in 1992. Since then, Sophie and her husband Laurent Cogombles have worked hard to extract the very best from this original terroir.

The terroir of Château Bouscaut is essentially composed of clay-gravel on limestone bedrock. The predominantly clay-limestone component of Bouscaut's soils gives the white wines a beautiful silky texture and a highly aromatic character in both Semillon and Sauvignon. This terroir also produces long-keeping white wines with floral, dried fruit and smoky notes. These same soils also produce excellent red wines: they are particularly well-suited to Merlot. The Château Bouscaut wines produced from these soils are highly colored and quite tannic, particularly rich and powerful.
