Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated (2021 Guide) 5*Stars (Exceptional producers who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)

About the estate:

This is a highly regarded estate, boasting a superb, contiguous vineyard surrounding the château—one of the best-cultivated in the Bordeaux region. Olivier Bernard is a tireless ambassador for Bordeaux wines around the world. He is also one of those who knows the value of his product most intimately, thanks to daily tastings with the estate’s countless visitors—a pioneer in welcoming the public. The whites are the most distinguished in the commune, while the reds are models of Bordeaux classicism in their balance and flavor. The latest reds are very impressive for their added body and complexity. Beautiful nuances, tension, and energy define the white Spirit of the Knight, which is the perfect reflection of a great wine. The 2016, 2017, and 2018 vintages, both red and white, are simply at the top of their game; the estate richly deserves a 5-star rating.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2016) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

About the wine:

Made from 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon, this wine stays true to the tradition of the appellation with its lovely floral, mineral, and delicately oaky aromas. This bouquet is echoed on the palate, which is round and rich, underscored by a subtle acidity. Subtle notes of white pepper, pear, and chestnut cream round out the profile, creating a complex and harmonious whole.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated (2014 guide) 18.5/20 (Outstanding)

About the wine:

(En Primeur Tasting) The nose is understated and subtle, without any exuberance. It offers hints of linden blossom, verbena, and slightly lemony white-fleshed fruits. The palate starts off very gently but lingers with a pleasant balance.

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Very elegant and complex, with subtle notes of citrus, honeysuckle, and tropical fruit, this 2012 Domaine de Chevalier is medium-bodied, fresh, and pure. It should age beautifully over the next 30 years. It has a straw-yellow color with greenish highlights.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 18/20 (Great wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

Crystal-clear and exquisitely refined, with hints of mint on the nose, the 2012 white wine is light and airy on the palate, with all its flavors unfolding over an incredibly long finish that brings out elegant toasty notes and juicy fruit. It possesses great style and elegance.

About the estate:

Since 1983, the Bernard family has spared no effort to keep this beautiful estate among the appellation’s top producers. Thanks to state-of-the-art equipment and a vineyard that has now reached the maturity needed to produce exceptional grapes, the wines are impeccable, both white and red. The vineyard, located in one of the appellation’s cooler areas on the edge of the Landes Forest, is tended like a garden. The white grapes are sorted with extreme care, and their vinification has become considerably more sophisticated, without altering the style or class of this highly regarded wine. Chevalier embodies finesse and elegance, without compromising its aging potential.

Wine rated (2013 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

(En Primeur Tasting) Complex, round, and full-bodied, this wine is still holding back a bit at the moment, keeping its fruit well-hidden. As it ages, it will be impressive, with a mineral texture underscored by apricot notes and layers of spice and oak.
