Wine rated 15.5/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2019 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the wine:

A rich, powerful nose, intensely fruity, with notes of licorice and violet; on the palate, it is dense, flavorful, expressive, and long-lasting, with a lovely balance of freshness. A lovely, well-balanced wine full of charm, with excellent aging potential.

About the estate:

Like Malartic-Lagravière, this estate has been owned by the Bonnie family since 2006, who manage it separately from the classified growth. With 22 hectares in the heart of the Léognan vineyards, 19 of which are planted with red grapes, it possesses great potential that has been coming into its own over the past few vintages. The current style tends to emphasize freshness and suppleness, not without charm. It has become a must-try in the appellation.

Wine noted (guide 2016) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2018 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

A complex, elegant bouquet of ripe red fruits, cedar, licorice, and smoke; a very supple, warm, and velvety palate, supported by silky tannins and subtle oak.

About the estate:

Established in the 17th century on a beautiful hillock of clay-gravel soil, this 20-hectare vineyard was acquired in 2006 by Alexandre Bonnie, owner of Malartic-Lagravière. It is managed by the technical teams of this classified growth, who have restructured the vineyard and equipped it with new facilities. Cultivated using methods close to organic farming, it is surrounded by meadows, flower-filled fallow fields, woods, and hedgerows.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2019 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

The 2012 red (50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot) is of excellent quality. It offers a very pleasant richness of texture, with slightly sweet tannins and a savory finish. Truly delicious in what was a challenging vintage!

About the estate:

This Léognan estate was virtually unknown until it was acquired in 2005 by the Bonnie family, who also own the classified growth Malartic-Lagravière. We owe the spectacular revival of this beautiful terroir of clay and gravel to Véronique Bonnie-Laplane, Séverine, and Jean-Jacques Bonnie. In less than ten years, the red wines have reached an excellent level of quality, with a deep, sensual, and flattering style and often opulent oak aging. In 2010, the white wine was introduced as a 100% Sauvignon Blanc, and the first vintages are quite impressive. Now more than just an outsider in Pessac-Léognan, Gazin-Rocquencourt is a mature estate with every asset needed to continue improving.

Gilbert & Gaillard

Wine rated (2015 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

A beautiful deep color with purple highlights. A crisp, very expressive nose evoking cherry flesh. On the palate, it opens with a full-bodied, supple, and fragrant attack; the fruit quickly gives way to silky tannins and pleasant spicy notes. A truly fine wine.
