Château Haut-Brion
Château Haut-Brion was founded and established as early as 1533 by Jean de Pontac, making it the oldest vineyard in Bordeaux, with the unique feature of being located within the city limits.

The Château Haut-Brion vineyard is situated on a terroir formed by two large mounds of Günzian gravel, with a clay-limestone subsoil. It covers 51 hectares, of which 48 are planted with red grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot) and 3 with white grape varieties (Sémillon and Sauvignon).

In 1855, Château Haut-Brion was elevated to the rank of Premier Cru Classé for red wines in the Gironde. Only three other Bordeaux wines were recognized at that time in a classification that remains the standard to this day. It is, in a sense, the “Father of the Premier Crus Classés.”
