“It stands out as one of the most vibrant and elegant wines of the vintage. A great success with excellent aging potential!”

“I loved the 2019 Château Latour-Martillac, and I underestimated it while it was still in the barrel. It reveals a dense ruby-plum color and a magnificent bouquet of blackcurrant, black cherry, smoked tobacco, gravelly earth, and chocolate. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich, with a round, layered texture, supple tannins, and an exceptional finish. It is beautifully crafted and will age for over 25 years in refrigerated cellars. It needs plenty of air if it is to be drunk soon.” (Jeb Dunnuck 2022)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

This classified growth is a model of a family-run estate, with all the Kressmann children showing an almost filial devotion to their heritage and a very sound management style. The red has gained significantly in tannin finesse and textural elegance. The wines are classic, with an emphasis on fruit, quality tannins, and freshness. Under the guidance of the highly talented and meticulous Valérie Vialard, the whites are impeccable, precise, aromatic, and perfectly lively.

Rated wine (2023 guide) 2* Stars (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

True to the vineyard’s tradition, this wine proudly displays its character. First, through its striking deep black color; then through the freshness and complexity of its bouquet, which opens with pure fruitiness that blends perfectly with the oak. The palate is the final convincing touch: great elegance, volume, very fine tannins, well-integrated oak, and a lingering fruit finish. Time will work in its favor. 2026–2032

About the estate:

While many of Bordeaux’s leading wine merchants have chosen to establish themselves in the Médoc, the Kressmanns opted for the Graves region and this estate, acquired in 1930, which takes its name from a tower that stands in its courtyard—a remnant of a château built in the 12th century by ancestors of Montesquieu. A beautiful 50-hectare estate renowned for both its white and red wines.

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

Cabernet Sauvignon (72%) lends the wine its aromatic finesse and the elegant, slender structure of its body. The decision to increase the proportion of this grape variety, a trend evident since 2014, has proven successful. The palate remains velvety, with a sunny character that rounds out the finish, yet this wine stands out as one of the most vibrant and distinguished of the vintage.

About the estate:

Here is a fine example of a family-owned estate, still in the hands of the Kressmanns, a historic family of Bordeaux wine merchants. Tristan and Loïc Kressmann are now at the helm of this cru classé, which enjoys a prime location on the Martillac plateau. Generation after generation has preserved the legacy passed down to them, while making steady progress in vineyard management and winemaking under the guidance of their cellar master, Valérie Vialard. The château inaugurated a new winemaking cellar for red wines with the 2019 vintage. Without succumbing to the allure of passing trends, the wines have retained their elegant and precise style; however, they are gaining in density. This highly convincing balance between tradition and modernity, as well as the particularly distinguished character of the latest vintages, leads us to award Latour-Martillac a second star.

About the wine:

The nose offers aromas of blueberries, with hints of dark chocolate and Indian spices (cardamom and blackcurrant). On the palate, it is smooth and sophisticated, revealing more mineral and vanilla notes, along with a deliciously chalky and crisp texture. A very successful wine.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

The nose is marked by dried flowers, blackberries, black cherries, tobacco, smoke, and a hint of cocoa. The wine is delicate, refined, elegant, and richly textured, with layers of ripe, sweet, supple, and mature dark red fruits. It offers length, elegance, and purity. It should age well. Best enjoyed between 2025 and 2040.

From the magnificent 2019 vintage, this Pessac-Léognan displays lovely freshness and a velvety, slightly creamy texture, with a refined and sensual mouthfeel. It displays an impressive concentration of ripe, sweet black fruits, subtly enriched with spices, against a backdrop of smoke and tobacco, with a mineral character and the remarkable depth of firm yet supple, coating tannins. The finish is long and savory. Great value. For Valentine’s Day, this nectar lived up to all its promises when paired with roasted squab with grapes and wild mushrooms. Rating = 4.6.

Deep cherry-red color. On the nose, ripe dark fruit—blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum—along with coffee, subtle floral notes, tobacco, and a hint of spice. On the palate, abundant dark fruit—blackcurrant, sloe plums—with substance; the tannins are still firm yet fine-grained and, in a sense, partially well-integrated. Finesse, power, fruit, Bordeaux character, potential, and balance. This is going to be a real beauty. Right now, it’s an absolute must to taste it in its youth, but then let it age for about 6 years. You’ll be rewarded! Score: 17.5+/20
