Le Clémentin de Pape Clément Pessac-Léognan blanc 2018 - Second vin

Its name alone speaks to the status this estate has enjoyed for the past thirty years. Here, everything borders on perfection: the white and red wines are elegant and sophisticated.

 

Bernard Magrez, who also owns the châteaux La Tour Carnet (Haut-Médoc) and Fombrauge (Saint-Émilion), has made this estate his flagship. Nothing is left to chance in the quest to produce the greatest wine possible. The pursuit of optimal ripeness, hand-destemming, and lavish aging… This is the archetype of a modern, luxurious Bordeaux that captivates immediately and evolves with great charm. On the flip side, some vintages have occasionally veered toward excess. Time, however, sets things right and tempers the wine’s fiery spirit, as the terroir eventually reasserts itself. Nevertheless, since the 2012 vintage, a shift in style has been noticeable, moving toward wines less marked by the sometimes excessive pursuit of ripeness and toward less aggressive aging—a trend clearly evident in our recent tastings, particularly with the 2015 vintage. The estate produces a small quantity of a white wine (aged partly in ovoid concrete tanks) that is delicately musky and possesses an elegance that places it at the forefront of Sauvignon-dominated Graves wines.

Subtle aromas of acacia, white peach, lemon cream, and minerality, followed by creamy mango on the palate. It is medium-bodied with lively acidity. Flavorful and full-bodied.

Light yellow with subtle golden highlights. A well-defined bouquet with notes of citrus and hazelnuts. A delicious, fruity attack. A balanced, fresh wine best enjoyed while young. A fruity, lingering finish. Now – 2023

Pale color. Medium-intensity nose, dominated by Sauvignon. Smooth, flavorful, and very aromatic on the palate, with a subtle hint of orange. Good length, with flavors of ripe fruit and a lively finish.

The nose is fresh and offers subtle intensity, richness, and a touch of power. It features notes of fresh lemon, crisp vine peach, and, more subtly, fresh apple, combined with delicate hints of white flowers and a subtle hint of vanilla blossoms. On the palate, it is fruity and balanced, with good definition, a delicate juicy and tangy structure, tension, a slight crunch, lovely freshness, a nice roundness, body, a pleasant smoothness, fine-grained texture, elegance, and fleshy, juicy fruit. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy, juicy vine peach and fleshy, juicy apple, with a lighter hint of pear, combined with touches of ripe lemon and subtle hints of ripe mandarin. The finish is very finely structured.
