Rated estate (2019 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Bernard Magrez, who also owns Château La Tour Carnet (Haut-Médoc) and Château Fombrauge (Saint-Émilion), has made this estate his flagship. Nothing is left to chance in the quest to produce the finest wine possible. The pursuit of optimal ripeness, hand-destemming, luxurious aging… This is the archetype of the modern, luxurious Bordeaux, one that captivates immediately and evolves with great charm. On the flip side, some vintages have occasionally veered into excess. Time then sets things right and calms the wine’s fiery spirit, as the terroir eventually reasserts itself. However, since the 2012 vintage, a shift in style has been noticeable, moving toward wines less marked by the sometimes excessive pursuit of ripeness, and toward less aggressive aging, which was clearly evident in our recent tastings, particularly with the 2015 vintage. The estate produces a small quantity of a white wine (aged partly in ovoid concrete tanks) that is delicately musky and possesses an elegance that places it at the forefront of Sauvignon-dominated Graves wines.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Wine rated (2019 guide) 89/100

About the wine:

Pale color. Medium-intensity nose, dominated by Sauvignon. Smooth, flavorful, and very aromatic on the palate, with a subtle hint of orange. Good length, with notes of ripe fruit and a lively finish.

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2019 guide) 92/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About the wine:

The nose is fresh and offers a delicate concentration, richness, and a touch of intensity. It features notes of fresh lemon, crisp vine peach, and a hint of fresh apple, combined with subtle hints of white flowers and a discreet touch of vanilla blossom. The palate is fruity and balanced, offering good definition, a delicate juicy/tart structure, tension, a touch of crispness, lovely freshness, a nice roundness, richness, a pleasant smoothness, fine-grained texture, elegance, and fleshy, juicy fruit. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy, juicy vine peach, fleshy, juicy apple, and, more subtly, pear, combined with hints of ripe lemon and subtle notes of ripe mandarin. The finish is very finely structured.
