Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2020 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2019 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

A lovely bouquet of white flowers and acacia, with a floral note reminiscent of the aromas of Muscadelle from the Bergerac region. Excellent body and complexity, consistently among the best of its appellation.

About the estate:

Its name alone speaks to the status this estate has enjoyed for the past thirty years. Here, everything borders on perfection: the whites and reds are elegant and sophisticated.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2020 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

A delicate balance between white pear and rich, textured citrus notes. It has evolved beautifully over several vintages, showcasing a more refined style of white wine. It is magnificently complex and well-structured.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2022) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

About the wine:

The intense and complex nose, with floral, citrus, vanilla, and spicy notes, is matched by a palate that is equally expressive, full-bodied, ripe, and dense. The mineral and fruity finish lingers for a long time.

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France

Rated estate (2019 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Bernard Magrez, who also owns Château La Tour Carnet (Haut-Médoc) and Château Fombrauge (Saint-Émilion), has made this estate his flagship. Nothing is left to chance in the quest to produce the finest wine possible. The pursuit of optimal ripeness, hand-destemming, luxurious aging… This is the archetype of the modern, luxurious Bordeaux, one that captivates immediately and evolves with great charm. On the flip side, some vintages have occasionally veered into excess. Time then sets things right and calms the wine’s fiery spirit, as the terroir eventually reasserts itself. However, since the 2012 vintage, a shift in style has been noticeable, moving toward wines less marked by the sometimes excessive pursuit of ripeness, and toward less aggressive aging, which was clearly evident in our recent tastings, particularly with the 2015 vintage. The estate produces a small quantity of a white wine (aged partly in ovoid concrete tanks) that is delicately musky and possesses an elegance that places it at the forefront of Sauvignon-dominated Graves wines.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2022 guide) 97/100

About the wine:

Aromas of green apple and lime. It is medium-bodied with a lively acidity and a salty, mineral, and tangy palate. Vibrant and intense. So much energy and freshness. Lots of lively acidity. Tight on the finish. Give it another 3 to 4 years in the bottle.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 94-96/100

About the wine:

Light yellow with green highlights. A subtle, complex bouquet with notes of white pepper, citrus, and flint. A racy, briny attack. The wine has verve and character, with a robust structure that supports the entire palate and ensures a lingering finish. A Pape Clément with real character!

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Wine rated (2022 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

Pale color. Intense, fruity, and subtle on the nose. Immediately smooth on the palate, with a light body and a hint of oak in the finish. Does not quite match the remarkable 2018. Good length.

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2020 guide) 93/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About the wine:

The nose is fresh, elegant, and aromatic, with lovely definition, fine-grained texture, and elegance. It features notes of ripe, juicy lemon and vine peach, along with more subtle hints of peach blossom and apple blossom, combined with subtle touches of ripe citrus (kumquat, mandarin, quince) as well as a subtle hint of exotic fruits, juicy apricot, flint, and very subtle hints of toast and sweet spices. The palate is fruity, balanced, and offers a juicy, subtly tart structure, richness, tension, as well as fine-grained texture and elegance. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy, juicy lemon, vine peach, and, more subtly, crushed apple, combined with small touches of juicy kumquat and quince, as well as very delicate hints of juicy, ripe apricot, apple blossom, and an imperceptible hint of sweet spices, nutmeg, and toasted almond. Good length.
